Russia Stood Alone. China Didn’t Help Vote Down Trump’s Syria UN Resolution
Russia Insider ^ | 13APR18 | Marko Marjanović

Posted on 04/13/2018 2:47:21 AM PDT by vannrox

Russia’s proposed UN Security Council resolution envisaging a speedy and realistic investigation into Douma incident was voted down by a triple veto. US, UK and France all voted against it.

However an earlier US-proposed resolution, which proposed an investigation mechanism that couldn’t possibly work and would have opened an avenue for the American use of force had to be vetoed by Russia alone. Bolivia was the only other nation to vote against it as China merely abstained.

China did so albeit it had previously called for restraint and for no side to resort to force which should have naturally made it predisposed to oppose the American resolution. Likewise the Chinese did so albeit the newly-appointed Chinese defense minister was in Moscow talking up ties between the two armed forces and countries.

It has long been Chinese philosophy not to stick its neck out at the UN. Beijing rarely vetoes anything that does not concern its immediate interests and never alone. Additionally China has its own, more immediate American problems right now with Trump threatening a trade war and is presumably reluctant to provoke the US president into further enmity. Finally it is clear that in Beijing’s strategic calculation China benefits with the US and Russia at each other’s throats. With US distracted by hostility towards Moscow it can not afford to at the same time act too aggressively against China, while the US pressure on Russia means Moscow has little choice but at least ensure the friendship of China.

Nonetheless, things are looking pretty grim for Russia right now (let’s not kid ourselves, in the Middle East the Empire holds escalation dominance) and a little support, no matter how symbolic, could have gone a long way towards securing long-term Russian appreciation. An opportunity missed for Beijing.

China voted for Russia but didn’t vote against US.

They probably abstained because their vote didn't really matter. It only takes one negative vote to veto the proposal in the Security Counsel. That was Russia's, so the outcome was already predetermined.

It's kind of like votes in the House or Senate where one side is so certain of the defeat or approval of a specific issue that they allow certain politicians in "vulnerable" seats to vote the opposite way: it makes that politician look good to his/her constituents and doesn't change the outcome in the slightest ...

I love how brilliantly he’s handled this-not that anyone will ever give him any credit for it. Assad went and took his air force out of the air on his own, anticipating an imminent attack. On his own! Meanwhile, the more time that passes, the more US assets can get moved into the area. And all the while, Assad’s air defense forces are left paranoid and sleepless for days - weeks? Readiness will be down whenever the attack is launched.

This is how you do it.

"Nonetheless, things are looking pretty grim for Russia right now (let’s not kid ourselves, in the Middle East the Empire holds escalation dominance)..."

"Empire." Ha. That's a projection. Germany is not a U.S. state. Neither is Japan. Mexico has its own government, as does Canada. Russia obviously loves expansion and empire, and so does China.

As for some of the billionaires of the world, they want whirled peas today at any cost for tomorrow. They're peaceniks who only want their global markets to stay the same for today. They've exerted their influence in the politics of many nations to the extent of trying to get along irrationally with the worst of tyrants who continue trying to physically invade and occupy their neighbors and build up their nuclear weapons forces for the purpose of someday trying to rule the whole world.

Do what? Enable the Masters of War to further destabilize countries that don't support the globalist agenda?

You really think Trump has a “master”? Who? The Illuminati?

I don’t think President Trump has a master. I think he’s the person we Deplorables elected, but unfortunately he didn’t bring enough with him who share his vision. I think he was horribly played. I was and am shocked that he didn’t see through this recent illegal and sloppy staged chemical attack. That happened because he announced ahead of time (something he said he’d never do) that he was pulling troops out of Syria.

It’s 4th dimensional chess. He got Assad to show how he planned to behave with the US gone. Then he got Assad preparing for imminent strikes that never came. He’s been playing Assad like a fiddle.

It’s just another operation for us to do because Israel wants it that way. Why can’t they put their assets on the ground if they want their lord of darkness gone so bad? Oh that’s right; they get to lobby us into doing it alongside the MSM, just like they did in Lebanon, Iraq, and all the other countries that mysteriously need to be destabilized for “national security”. I bet the neocons and Israel treat the current UN deliberations like gospel right now and support humanitarianism with such conviction for the poor people of Douma, though they sure didn’t when it served their interests, and Israel sure didn’t when they helped out the West Bank settlers.

When Saddam gassed the Kurds at Halabja during the Iran-Iraq War, we didn’t lift a finger in retaliation, much less form a coalition of all the familiar good guys. This was because Saddam worked with us and we wanted Iran humbled, and we were supplying both sides.

How about ISIS, who was helped out by Turkey, a NATO ally (and probably us in some way) among other militia groups who did the same? They used chemical weapons many times against civilians, much more that that for which the UN is taking Assad to account. Are we to place major sanctions on Turkey and take out all NATO weapons in retaliation? Why hasn’t that happened? Why haven’t we strung up the parts of the deep state and McCain acolytes who quite obviously supported the aforementioned groups?

The hypocrisy is overwhelming. I do not support this action, and I think it is wrong. I can’t believe Trump could possibly back this farce.
It’s time to truly drain the swamp.

Do you believe that or is it sarcasm? What happened is that we got to see how the Masters of War would behave if the US decided to mend our ways.

Israel is our friend. Always has been. And Trump knows this. They stand up for us, and we stand up for them.

Thankfully the US relationship with Israel has never been stronger. They love Kushner over there, and having him in Trump’s inner circle with a direct line to the president, that’s invaluable in as sensitive conflicts as these.

Trump's bellicose tweet was able to preempt the European interventionists from acting on their own and for that I give him credit.

Now lets see if he can walk everyone back from the edge of the cliff without anyone falling over.

There are much more important issues for him to deal with than the aftermath of the Syrian civil war.

When did they stand up for us militarily? They were part of neither the Iraq nor Afghanistan coalitions. Intelligence sharing and trade do not count for “standing up”.
