Im Not a Criminal, But Im Going to Prison for Owning a Legal Handgun in New York

“Do you understand what it means when you have absolutely nowhere to turn?” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment

Clark Camp is a slight, mild-mannered blond who has spent recent weeks preparing to be locked away in a New York state prison for the next two years.

The 29-year-old Hawaii native faces a second degree weapons possession charge, a crime that carries a mandatory five-year sentence in New York, yet Camp’s lawyer, almost miraculously, managed to have that reduced to two. Camp has no criminal record and no prior arrests.

His life changed one night in 2016. He was living in San Diego and on his way home decided to stop into a bar down the street for a nightcap. He made eyes with a girl and they struck up conversation.

“We shared a plate of nachos, some drinks, and some laughs,” Camp recalls.

A whirlwind romance ensued over the next few days. Camp, who has never had much luck with women, fell madly in love. A few days later the two set off for an overnight trip to Mexico and rented a beachside Airbnb in Baja. As she prepared to return home to Brooklyn, and their affair drew to a close, the two found themselves unable to part. The woman suggested they take a road trip back to New York and perhaps Camp ought to just stay and live with her.

He would do just that, packing a few bags and heading cross-country in April 2016. But early on there were signs that she perhaps suffered from emotional issues. And one year later, Camp came back to their apartment to find his girlfriend naked on the sofa with another man. A heated argument broke out.

In a small compartment behind the seat of his ’85 Chevrolet El Camino, Camp stored a Hi-point .45 pistol he bought legally in Ohio for $140 and that he kept locked away in a safe. When the officers found the weapon, Camp was arrested and charged with a Class C Felony.

His girlfriend had a far-left stance on guns. She said it frightened her to have one in their apartment and so Camp kept it locked safely away in the car to appease her, he explained.

“I just wanted to leave,” Camp recalled to DANGEROUS.

It was too late. The noise from the shouting attracted the attention of neighbors, who called the police. Officers interviewed Camp’s girlfriend who told them, out of spite, he says, about a weapon he had in his car.

Review the Chris Rock video on “How not to get your ass beat by the police”:

Never drive with a crazy woman in the car: “He got weed! He got weed!”

So, lesson here. Inform yourself of local gun laws before venturing far away from home. Youngsters in “love” sometimes are distracted. Probably not a good idea for him to try to replace the .45 when he gets out(unless somehow he gets his rights restored). Replace the girl? Yeah.

I dream of the day that I can carry my weapons from state to state, city to city and be legal and not have to worry about some sick law that would put me in jail. Maybe under Trump that will finally happen.

Never date a leftist.

Especially one who lives in Brooklyn.

If a gal reminds you of anyone you ever saw on Maury Povich or similar show don’t date her.

This poor guy. First the naked unstable girl. Then this.

This is an abomination. I think that is why the states should have no say in this. People should have the right everywhere in the union, without having to worry about this.

Lots of people in this thread blaming the guy.

We all make mistakes.

It’s the STATE’S FAULT that he is going to jail. This isn’t right, that whole stupid, damned state and all of it’s residents (Yeah, come at me bro) are to blame.

Every state in the NE is just terrible. And the people like to blame everything else but it’s them that let this happen.

I worked in CT during the gubernatorial run that got Malloy in. I helped as much as I could. But there is just nothing good there. Let it go.

It’s the home of the “’but’ conservatives” who all claim to be right-wing and pro-freedom .... BUT ..... There is always something that leans them leftward.

Just blot out those stars on your flags. They aren’t America anymore.

I know the laws of my state (and every state bordering my state, with regards to non-resident carry, possession, etc). When I don’t know, I assume “illegal”. I can’t i.agine waltzing into NY of all places without the gun situation crossing my mind.

He plea bargained down to two years in prison and felony charge that takes away even more of his rights, and all for essentially a the victimless crime of having a crappy Highpoint handgun in his car for the intent of personal protection (a Constitutional right).

If you travel to another country, like New York, you HAVE to obey their laws. Until New York returns to the United States, and the Constitution, it must be treated as a hostile regime, and in rebellion.

Another point: Don't sleep with anyone crazier than you. Leftists qualify as screaming batsh!t crazy.

Once again, the US Constitution (Bill of Rights) needs to apply equally to all citizens in all states, even in DC. Unless and until it does, the divide will continue to be used to degrade the freedom and liberty that the Constitution itself was meant to guarantee. A divided house will not stand. Maybe Congress should pass an act that restores the original, as written US Constitution. It could be covered with one or two sentences.
