Six people were detained Sunday for allegedly plotting an attack on the Berlin Half Marathon.
Local police said the men supposedly planned to brandish knives in crowds and slash spectators and participants around them, according to The Washington Post.
There were isolated indications that those arrested, aged between 18 and 21 years, were participating in the preparation of a crime in connection with this event, prosecutors and police wrote in a joint statement.
Police reportedly tracked the main suspect and his co-conspirators for weeks when they discovered a plot to attack civilians at the event. Once suspicions were confirmed, the residences and two vehicles of the suspects were raided and the arrests were made prior to the race.
The police were already on high alert for the event. Two days prior, a man drove a truck on a crowded sidewalk, killing two people in a northern German city. There were 630 officers guarding the event, which went on without any incidents.
A record 36,000 athletes entered the race. Erick Kiptanui of Kenya won the race in a course-record 58 minutes and 42 seconds.
Shocking, no names released. Only photo is of a dark haired bearded perp. No doubt the German authorities will tell us at some point that his name is Max Schmidt
I wondered where the name "Erick" originated. ;)
Probably those long haired German models that terrorized the tower in Die Hard!
Geez, no names? I’m betting it wasn’t Hans and Dieter and company....
Did we ever get the name of the truck driver in Muenster?
Did we ever get the name of the truck driver in Muenster? ................................ It could have been one of 3, either Braun, Bauer or Schmidt. No Adolfs, no one in Germany is called Adolf anymore.
Since they deliberately and intentionally hid the fact that it’s m*slims, we know for sure, without a doubt, that it’s m*slims.
Musselmen have a knife cult. Knifes used to kill infidels are highly esteemed and are handed down through the male generations.
