[DHS] wants to track the comings and goings of journalists, bloggers and other “media influencers” through a database.
The DHS’s “Media Monitoring” plan, which was first reported by FedBizOpps.gov, would give the contracting company “24/7 access to a password protected, media influencer database, including journalists, editors, correspondents, social media influencers, bloggers etc.” in order to “identify any and all media coverage related to the Department of Homeland Security or a particular event.”

Trump should put a stop to it TODAY. He’d defend the Constitution and do a solid for the press. Their heads would likely explode.
I wonder how tailored they are and what hidden legal landmines are for the social media giants, google, facebook, twitter et al.
The article makes it sound like this is a new program, but the DHS spokesman says it is routine and ongoing, and only of concern to “tin-foil hat” types. I wonder what the truth is?

Now journalists care...Remember back in April 2009 when Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said that she was briefed before the release of a controversial intelligence assessment and that she stands by the report, which lists returning veterans among terrorist risks to the U.S.

I would guess that parts of our government already have a database of Free Republic “influencers”. Who are the key figures on here who tend to lead conservative opinion? Do they sound like the types to initiate action? Do they sound loyal to our government (preferred) or just to the Constitution (a threat to our ruling class)?

There definitely needs to be a list.
