The whispered speculation about replacing John McCain is getting louder
Vox ^ | 4 April 2018 | Dylan Scott

It might be uncomfortable to talk about, but Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been fighting brain cancer since July. The 81-year-old has not returned to the US Capitol since December.

So the speculation is already underway about what would happen if McCain stepped down — or, worse, could no longer serve. The Washington Post reported Tuesday that a list of possible successors is circulating in the whispering Republican class, headlined by McCain’s wife, Cindy McCain, and former US Sen. Jon Kyl.

If McCain leaves office before May 30, the Post indicated, his Senate seat will be on the ballot in Arizona in November 2018, as will that of his retiring junior colleague, Republican Sen. Jeff Flake. After May 30, the new senator — who would be appointed by Republican Gov. Doug Ducey — would serve through 2020.

It’s not uncomfortable to talk about at all...

...and it’s about time someone is.

At on time I had wished he would resign, but now in my opinion McCain needs to hold on till after May 30th. AZ does not need to have 2 senators on the ballot for Nov 2018.

I think many thought the problem (he’s alive) would take care of itself (he would die)?

If McCain had any integrity he would’ve resigned as soon as he received a terminal diagnosis.

Because of this, I’ve thought that McCain would hang on in office until after May 30 and that, even then, any resignation would hinge upon an arrangement with Ducey to appoint a replacement named by McCain. This critical act will reveal whether Ducey is a globalist, open-borders RINO or a Patriot. Sadly, I suspect I know the answer.

Ducey needs to tell McCain’s forces that if he goes after May 30th he’ll appoint Sheriff Joe through 2020 - leaving Kelly Ward one on one vs. McSally - and expect him not to seek re-election. If McCain bails earlier the voters get a say come November.

You could never replace “Crash” McCain! ( super sarc.)

He’s got thunder rolling out of his arse and lightning flashing from his eyes! (sarc,, am effing traitor to America, IMHO)

Just don’t replace John McCain, we do not need another like him.

We need a true blue conservative patriot to fill Crash’s seat.

Can we please get someone who is not part of the McCain network? This is not a monarchy where the old king dies and the new king takes his place. Has anyone done any research about any possible candidate who is not is not connected to the McCain network? I am not interested in McSally because she strikes me as being part of the military industrial complex type. These are the people who got McCain in because they know how Americans admire the military. We need people who are pro a strong military without being under the thumb of the military industrial complex who never met a war they didn’t like.

How about that woman doctor who is running?

"I think many thought the problem (he’s alive) would take care of itself (he would die)?"

Everybody dies sooner than later. I would not be so overjoyed at the prospect of Senator McCain's death. He has proven to be a courageous, yet like us all, a flawed human being.

Don't be surprised if the DEMs don't try to do what is necessary to fill that seat in a special election this coming fall. That would not be good for the conservative cause regardless of how you and others on this post feel about Senator McCain.

If Ducey had the courage to do that, he would have a future at the national level. Decisive leadership and vision are rare today.

“what would happen if McCain stepped down — or, worse, could no longer serve.”

How is that worse? Who knows when the brain tumor rendered him unfit for office? Any doctors out there? Is this a slow growing tumor that could have been affecting his judgment for years?

I am not from Arizona but would like it to work out that both Kelly Ward and U.S Representative McSally became U.S. Senators from this state.
