U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 97 people after raiding a Tennessee meat processing plant, in what civil rights activists say was the largest crackdown at a single place in almost a decade.
ICE spokeswoman Tammy Spicer announced the raid in a statement on Friday and said that of the 97 people taken into custody from Southeastern Provision meat processing plant in eastern Tennessee, 11 people were arrested on criminal charges, 54 were placed in detention and 32 were released.
She said they were all arrested on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

Companies around here in NY hire cleaners through other companies that specializing in housekeeping. The cleaners work regular 40 hour weeks but not for the company they are working at. The company needing the service does not have an HR connection with the employees the other company does. If there are issues with a particular cleaner they inform the cleaning company not to send juan or whomever, back.
The company I worked for and retired from rented about 20 or more cleaners. I dont think 3 could speak English.
The problem is, liberals outlawed all tools that personal managers used to sort out those that weren’t legal.
If it’s illegal to question hires, or require normal ID I don’t see how you can jail the managers.
Fake ID’s company suspects they are fake but hires anyway
What is this E-Verify Bullsheite I hear about?
I believe, though I am not sure and I don’t know the technicalities, that when a company hires another provider of services they are supposed to get certain legal insurances that all the employees meet legal standards. So I would think that if they did not get that information the company hiring the other company is also in violation of the law.
However since I don’t know this for certain I would be interested in hearing from anyone who does know more about it.
Based on all the laws, rules, and regulations regarded to hiring there is absolutely zero chance that this wasn’t entirely delivered on the part of the employer. There must be some legal sanctions that can be levied upon the employer now even without changing the law. So why does the federal government not do that?
considering they were paying people in cash and not withholding payroll taxes, it’s pretty obvious the problem here is not that they were unable to establish whether they were legal or illegal workers.

Yep, those laws need to be revoked, too. Then give companies a grace period to clean house. After the grace period, inspections begin. And promote a 1-800 hotline for tipsters.
Need to remove all multi-lingual signs everywhere except international airports and ports, too.
“considering they were paying people in cash and not withholding payroll taxes,”
I( didn’t see that in the article, do you have a link?
I worked in HR, there is a legal document you have to fill out showing you require 2 forms of ID, there are 2 columns of potential allowable documents. you also have to state you are legal to work in the US. This document stays on the property of the employer but i guess you are open to audit by the government at any time to make sure you are in compliance.
If you check everify and the documents do not match - i’m pretty sure you can ask for better identification but I know you can’t ‘not hire’ them because the documents do not seem to be in order, instead you are to contact the government and i’m sure they would verify the items promptly. If you find you have one undocumented person, i’m sure it wouldn’t be an issue but like in this case, they had tons and were paying cash, obviously there was no mistake on their part that they hired in error.
Federal law should require the use of E-verify. If companies hire illegals without using the system for the hire then fine them 20K for each incident.
oh my gosh, i swear i saw that the reason they were targeted was because they were withdrawing large amounts of cash from the bank every week, am i crazy, it was just a few minutes ago.
I don’t see anything like that in the article?
NICE ! Now fine the employer and monitor the hiring for a year with the cost of such proceeding to be assessed to them.
it’s here but i swear it was also in the other article but i swear it was in the other article, it’s sure not there now.
federal agents began investigating the company months ago after Citizens Bank employees noticed that Southeastern Provision was withdrawing large sums of cash every week more than $25 million since 2008. Worsham said the plant hired undocumented workers who were paid in cash
and it’s in this article.
He alleged the facility failed to report $8.4 million in wages and to pay at least $2.5 million in payroll taxes for dozens of undocumented workers.

We ate at a buffet the other day and I came down with suspected food poisoning.Noticed all the employees were Mexican. It used to be a good place to eat. The food was horrible also. Never go back.
