Border Patrol mismanages manpower with agents stuck on desk duty
Washington Times ^ | April 5, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

President Trump wants to get more manpower on the border by deploying the National Guard, but there is another option: He could tell the Border Patrol to get agents out from behind their desks and into the field on patrol duty.

On one Sunday last month in a key stretch of the border in Texas, just 12.5 percent of the agents on duty were patrolling along the border, according to numbers reviewed by The Washington Times. At one point during the day shift, that worked out to 16 agents patrolling more than 55 miles — and five of them were on the waters of the Rio Grande, leaving just 11 agents — one for every 5 miles — to watch the land.

Later in the article:

During the day shift on March 18 — a Sunday — only 16 agents were deployed to the field, Mr. Judd wrote: 11 of them on land and five on water. He said the station is divided into four zones, each covering about 14 miles of the border. Two of those zones had just a single agent assigned.

And not just 2,000 to 4,000 in support roles. How about around 50,000? Yes, figure 2,000 miles of border, teams of three per mile by three 8-hour shifts, means 48,000. Actually 50,000 is low as these folks need rotated out for time off. So, 2,000-4,000 is a joke and not enough to secure the border or help the Border Patrol secure 2,000 miles of border.

Stuff it, WashingtonTimes

3 hours ago, the NYslimes set up a tearjerker by admitting:

“Dozens of immigrants, mostly from Central America, have been crossing illegally here every day, most of them scooped up by federal Border Patrol agents, given a court date and an ankle bracelet monitoring device, and dropped off at the downtown bus station.”

so I’d imagine all those ‘desk jockies’ are detaining, transporting, assigning bracelets, feeding, cleaning up after and filling out endless reams of paperwork, etc. day and night, 7 days a week, for the

” 37,393 individuals apprehended on the Southwest border... a 203 percent increase over the same period in March 2017..”

We probably don’t even want to know the amount of forms have to be processed. It’s a federal agency, after all.

The Border Patrol should limited to just managing the drive-through points, and handling the individuals ‘caught’. The US military (active duty, not the Guard) should be brought in....in the range of 35,000 to 40,000 personnel and units be given a 100-mile stretch to manage. I could even envision creating an organization like the Coast Guard being created...just for border protection and guard duty.

The “Washington Times” traditionally carries water for the GOP Establishment and has printed their propaganda line over the years IMHO.

In the budget just sent to President Trump by the GOPe led Congress, there was an increase in Border Patrol staff of only 351 to add to the 60,000 or so who work for the agency.

An increase of just .5 percent.

A distraction from the RINO’s who run Congress and oppose President Trump’s efforts to secure the border by building a wall and have not given him the money to accomplish that task, either.

The RINO’s who’s propaganda is published by the “Washington Times” want the country flooded with cheap labor.

So the answer is to wage American military blood and oodles of tax payer cash instead of making the border patrol do their job? Classic leadership fail.
Sending armed troops is going to cost lives.
Why not keep a campaign promise to build a wall?

The NG is not going to border to wage war, it is going to help the border patrol do their job, as they are short handed...lots of vacancies. We need that military presence at the border. Mexico will break up the hordes, but not keep them from crossing the border, as always...every year since 2010 this horde has marched across Mexico to border to enter illegally!

Sending military to border will save lives! Maybe yours, as we have more deaths by illegals every day! The type of work that will be done by military is support; so border patrol can do their jobs! This is NOT a leadership fail, it is leadership WIN!

The purpose of the NG/military to the border is to stay and support border patrol, WHILE THE WALL IS BEING BUILT! Sheesh!

The NG is not going to be patrolling the border much. They’ll be doing paperwork, interviews, putting anklets on, moving people from point A to point B. All the things that are preventing the BC people from being out there patrolling the lands that they’re familiar with.

TX is getting flooded. So many illegals that BC is being kept busy with handling the red tape part of things instead of patrolling. BC agents already know the border land, know the rules of engagement and are familiar with what they can and can’t do out there in the field.

Seems like everyone has this image of NG out there fully armed and driving humvees up and down the border. There might be some that do that but lightly armed and accompanying/supporting BC agents.

NG people do know how to type on a computer, fill out paperwork, transport people etc.

I see what this is,

“””Those numbers were detailed in a letter sent to the Border Patrol’s chief by National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd.”””

from wikipedos:
“””The National Border Patrol Council is a labor union established in 1967 that represents agents and support staff on the United States Border Patrol. It is an affiliate of the American Federation of Government Employees, and through that larger organization is a member of the AFL-CIO”””

Some AFL-CIO union boss wants more money, more members to pay dues etc. They’re website is bpunion.org

Seems like the agents themselves are on Trump’s side. WaTimes just found some union guy complaining and are using that to bash Trump.
