Opinion: Nixon's decisions during Watergate may help us understand the legal trouble Trump is in now
NBC "News" ^ | April 5, 2018 | by Suzanne Garment

Washington, a town loaded with lawyers, is talking about how President Donald Trump can’t seem to find even one.

The Russia probe has put Trump in desperate need of a first-rate attorney. But one key reason he is unable to hire good counsel, Washington legal analysts say, is that he’s a terrible client. In lawyer lingo, this usually means that a client won’t do what his attorneys advise.

Certainly, that’s what John Dowd, Trump’s former lead attorney on the Muller investigation, meant. After Dowd resigned, The Washington Post reported that he had been complaining about how Trump ignored his advice.

This problem is not new. During Watergate, President Richard M. Nixon wouldn’t listen to his lawyers either — as my late husband, Leonard Garment, found out while he was working in the White House as Nixon’s legal counsel at the time of Watergate.

Even if Trump could become a “better client,” it’s unlikely he would be able to attract the superior lawyers who could save him from Special Counsel Robert Muller. They know that the Trump White House is simply not conducive to superior lawyering

“This is turmoil,” Theodore Olson, one of the lawyers who turned down the Trump defense, told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “It’s chaos, it’s confusion. It’s not good for anything.”

This is not the Nixon White House — but it could be another kind of graveyard for the reputations of even the best lawyers.

Trump is not IN any legal trouble. Nor has he ever been, which is why the Dems have not been able to get or keep him out of offices

PDJT knows more lawyers than Suzanne Garment can shake a stick at.

Does NBC ever post anything non-liberal? I don’t hear Trump attack them that much.

Baloney, Trump has incredible lawyers due to his positions in the market and in the business world.

He just can’t get a good government lawyer. Begging the question, can anybody get a good government lawyer?

The jeopardy is real. Mueller’s specialty is crafting serious charges against innocent people. Read up on the hell-on-earth Mueller put 100% innocent Hatfill through. Then there were the 10p% innocent men in Boston that Mueller attempted to imprison for life, so that the homicidal psychopath, Whitey Bulger, could continue his reign of terror.

Ted Olson has spent so much time “representing” faggots that he’s begun to act like them completely openly.

Chatter chatter run to the press. Did he ever hear of confidentiality?

I was about to question whether he has a respectful bone in his body...but I rather expect it isn’t the respectful ones he enjoys.

Someone is attempting to make a name for herself.

NBC, in usual fashion jumping on the band wagon to knock this President down if only by innuendo.
No matter how hard they try, the “strike” normally has 2 pinheads yet standing.

D’rats they seldom know when to quit take their knives and balls and head for home.

The problem here is that Trump may have done nothing wrong but sitting down with Mueller is likely to be used against him, probably to set up a "perjury trap."

Every competent defense attorney in D.C., and probably everywhere else, knows that--even if you have a completely innocent client--when the prosecutor wants to interview that client, especially late in the game (i.e., after taking statements from other witnesses), the prosecutor isn't interested in "clearing the air," but in trying to get the client to incriminate/perjure himself. Even if the client tells the whole truth, the prosecutor will charge the client with "lying" if any of the other witnesses can credibly contradict the client.

The defense bar won't take Trumps case because they can't get Trump to accept that is what Mueller is up to.

This article is meaningless BS. The huge mistake being made is equating Donald with Nixon. Trump knows good legal advice when he hears it....for several reasons.

Trump has triumphed in the dog-eat-dog worlds of (a) real estate, .......(b) reality TV-—at the top of the ratings for 14 years ........ and, the gaming industry.

People like Barron Hilton, of Hilton hotel fame, and Playboy Hugh Hefner COULD NOT get A/C gaming licenses——the process is so rigorous, they could not pass the test.

Trump had a total of four A/C casinos....and casinos elsewhere.

If spoon-fed Muller can’t find anything its b/c gaming industry honchos...... who are 1000 time smarter than Mueller ....have already looked and found nothing.

Thank you for your work and caring about the facts. You present history that the many have not heard or read about. This information matters.

MSM still trying to sell the Watergate narrative. Only problem is during Watergate both Nixon’s FBI Director and DOJ head went to jail. In this case Obama’s FBI Director and DOJ head are at risk. That part she conveniently does not mention
