Just about everyone in New Jersey has heard about what happened to Autumn Pasquale,...Less than 72 hours after Autumn was last seen, police announced the arrests of two teenage brothers, 15-year-old Justin and 17-year-old Dante Robinson. Prosecutors said the brothers lured Autumn to their home across town and killed her in a scheme to steal parts from her bike. In the waning days of 2012, the tragic story from this small corner of the state was bandied across the nation as a cautionary tale..... When she posted on Facebook about needing someone to install new rims on her bike, Robinson said he offered to help. On a Friday night, the two made small talk on Facebook messenger for about two hours..... [The brothers' mother Anita] Saunders shared those messages with NJ Advance Media, which she said were part of discovery in the case against her son. The messages show two kids planning to meet up, not the prelude to a premeditated crime, she said. In the basement of his house, Robinson said Autumn offered him $10 to install the rims. After he was finished with her bicycle, he asked for the money. She said she didn't have it with her. "You can't get the bike unless you give me the money," Robinson recalled telling her. But she had no plans of leaving without her bike and Autumn began hitting him, Robinson claims. "I didn't know what to do," he says. "I didn't want to hit her physically. I just threw my hands around her neck and I just choked her until she stopped hitting me. When she went limp, I let her go." She died, investigators said, from "blunt force trauma, consistent with strangulation."

The article stirs up natural outrage in response to the crime itself and to the excuses made by the killer and his mother, and to the short sentences - 17 years for the younger brother, 11 months for the older.
It also brings up the unpublished details that the killer had asked his victim if she was single and said that he was attracted to her on FB, but that some of her clothing was removed - he said it came off when he dragged her body to hide it.
In context, the article appeared in print two days after an article about another killer who used Facebook to offer an item for sale and lure, rob and murder a young man. No premeditation there, of course not.
Or perhaps the editors had it written up for a slow news day. But I do hope it was subversive.
I’ve ridden my bike through some very tough neighborhoods in my life, and even been through some very “iffy neighborhoods in Seattle, Chicago and Memphis (even at night), but one day I pulled off the freeway, running on fumes, to get gas for my rental car on my way to the Newark, NJ airport and looked around. There was no way I was getting out of my car. I chanced it and luckily made it to the airport.
I have no desire to EVER set foot in that God forsaken state.
A man with a plan!
This manifests a corrupt mind in the killer. The corrupt mind of the newspaper people is almost as repulsive.
I dont blame you and Im the last person to defend NJ. But there is a big chunk of the state where, what you describe, is not the rule. (Same with the commie state I live in. NY. ).
Some day I plan to leave the Marxist NE. But for now
I keep to the better areas.
Yes, we need to be more understanding. Why did they not plead self-defense. Obviously, this young lady did not read John Derbyshire’s article.
“I have no desire to EVER set foot in that God forsaken state.”
Oh for heaven’s sake, there are many beautiful areas of New Jersey.

Several years ago, I was in Kansas City for work. My rental was an upgrade convertible. I got off at the wrong exit and was stopped at a light in a really rough area. I thought I should raise the roof but then realized it wouldn’t do any good.
That was a fun rental car. I had to do a ton of driving that week so it was fun.
This monster should be put to death immediately. He has no conscience and only regrets getting caught.
“deeply subversive of the leftist narrativ”
Huh? It’s a news item about a poor kid who got herself killed. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Very weird. The deceased didn’t know anybody that could do the job? No Dad, Brothers, friends, or cousins? She agreed to pay $10 and showed up with no money? She meets total strangers on FB? What are “new rims” for a bike? Bikes come with wheels. It sounds like both she and her new FB “friends” have impulse control problems.
Did the same at an exit off I-95 in North Jscksinville, Florida. Decided to take my chances running out of gas on interstate.
Only the mama for the two bros spoke up. Bet you a nickel to a dollar that there isn't a father in the picture.
And where was the girl's father or mother? They should have been the ones to fix the bike for her at 12 years old. Not let her pedal across town to let two black thugs prey on her.
This exposes how dangerous blabbing all your personal business to everyone in the world on Facebook and other social media can be, especially for young kids.
"I didn't kill her for no bike." "No, I killed her for my $10", which sounds much better.
Sad but not surprising, given the circumstances leading up to the crime. Could have been avoided or prevented. She walked right into a trap.
So,in order not to hit a girl he choked her to death.
Did he take the bike?
“there are many beautiful areas of New Jersey.”
True, but the long arm of the taxman reaches you wherever you are. Worst taxes in the nation. But that’s another story.
Spend some time in Vernon, Sussex County, Flemington or down in South Jersey away from the Philly burbs. It’s very nice there.
Feral logic...
It’s obvious that the murderer had help from his lawyer, who reviewed the available evidence and concocted a story that couldn’t be refuted by the dead child. An ISIS burn cage is too good for these people.
I mean that the media often enough prints articles that are supposed to make us feel sorry for poor deprived criminals and make us understand how they came to make their bad choices and why we shouldn’t judge them too harshly.
Well, this is an article exactly in that template, and I do not believe one reader will accept any of the killer’s excuses. None of the commenters online did. So it may make even squishy liberal readers question the narrative in stories of this kind.

She was 12———12 year old girls don’t always think logically and bike rims is a term used by cyclists.
