DOJ: Caravan Border-Crossers Have 88% Chance of Evading Deportation by Claiming ‘Credible Fear’

Border-crossers entering the United States illegally have an 88 percent chance of evading immediate deportation by claiming “credible fear” in their native country, the Department of Justice (DOJ) analysis reveals. The issue of the country’s loose asylum laws — where foreign nationals can claim that they are fearing for their lives in their native country and be released into the U.S. until their day in court — has sparked debate, as a caravan of 1,500 Central American asylum-seekers are headed for the southern border.

In 88 percent of cases, foreign nationals seeking asylum in the U.S. evade immediate deportation after claiming credible fear, according to DOJ. Only half of the foreign nationals who evade immediate deportation by claiming credible fear, however, end up filing for asylum status after they are released into the U.S.

As Attorney General Jeff Sessions has noted, the fact that only half of the asylum-seekers end up seeking asylum once they are in the U.S. “suggests” that their claims of credible fear are not valid and that they were using the country’s loose asylum laws to enter the U.S.

After former President Obama’s administration acted as a rubber stamp for asylum-seekers looking to permanently stay in the U.S., the number of credible fear cases increased from 5,000 in 2009 to 94,000 in 2016.

At the border alone, between 2009 and 2016 credible fear claims by border-crossers increased from 3,000 cases to nearly 70,000 cases. Now, the immigration courts have been hampered by a backlog of more than 600,000 immigration cases pending.

For the caravan of Central Americans looking to make it to the southern border through Mexico, current U.S. immigration law allows them to not have to stop in Mexico and claim asylum there, as pointed out by the Center for Immigration Studies’ Andrew Arthur.

Anyone who lives in one of these $hithole countries can legitimately claim fear as a reason, unless they’re top dog in the local cartel. Let them clean their own house instead of seeking refuge in ours.

“Credible fear,” huh? Well, there’s the new mantra. Good job. The libs will be spouting that BS forever.

If they are coming sponsored as part of invasion, they should not be able to claim asylum. Turn them all back.

Why don’t they visit our embassy in their country to file their petition?

To do so would be to declare themselves "enemies of the state" and get them hurt, imprisoned or killed.

WRONG!!!

In court, the U.S. goverment needs to simply point out that ANY illegal alien who did NOT seek asylum in the first country they escaped to is NOT DEEMED CREDIBLE WHEN CITING 'FEAR' AS THE REASON FOR ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE UNITED STATES.

Quite simply, these ILLEGALS FORFEITED ANY CREDIBILITY WHEN CITING 'FEAR' as the reason for leaving Honduras when they PASSED THROUGH MEXICO WHERE THEY COULD'VE FIRST SOUGHT ASYLUM BUT INSTEAD MOVED THROUGH IT AND INTO THE UNITED STATES!!!!

Looks like Trump should send an army of judges to the border, not just soldiers.

No, this is not correct.

Claiming “Credible Fear” only delays the process. True, some are not deported IF their claim is substantiated by other than their own “claim”. The vast majority who claim this are, in fact, deported eventually.

I worked at the Federal Alien Detention Center in Florence, AZ for two and half years. (2012-2014). I know.

Not too long ago I examined Liberians shipping container loads of mostly used tires and clothing back to Liberia. They mistakenly thought I was a “government man”

The reflex answer from every single one was someverson of fleeing death. They were refugees. They had the response drilled in like Gravitas was to the MSM

The problem with that is they’re allowed in, given a court date, and never show up if they’re not actual refugees.
(...right? You’d know.)

"Put them on buses to the Canadian border and drop them off at border stations, with instructions on getting into Canada. All hail NAFTA. Trudeau said they’ll take those we won’t."

Like it! Just make sure the instructions are written in Spanish. Let's see how Canada reacts with all their over-stayed visas in our country.

They all get a court date if they are caught 100 miles or more north of the border. Usually takes 2-3 weeks if they dont put up much of a fight...maybe a couple months if they do. South of 100 miles they can be deported immediately.

I always thought it was funny around Christmas and Easter that a lot of them drop their court cases and sign a waiver to be immediately deported so they get a free ride to the border.

so . . .
to all those restrictive places demanding a “reason” to carry, “Credible Fear” sounds like a winner!

This is why they MUST be stopped 500 feet from the border.

If Mexico will not do it, we must.
