Fentanyl-Laced Cocaine Becoming A Deadly Problem Among Drug Users
National Public Radio NPR ^ | March 29, 2018 | Martha Bebinger

A pipe was the only sign of drug use found near Chris Bennett's body in November. But it looked like the 32-year-old Taunton, Mass., native had stopped breathing and died of an opioid overdose. Bennett's mother, Liisa, couldn't understand what happened. Then she saw the toxicology report.

"I'm convinced he was smoking cocaine that was laced," she says. "That's what he had in his system, [it] was cocaine and fentanyl."

Liisa Bennett was shocked. Chris had developed an addiction to pain pills and then heroin in his late teens but had not used opioids for at least 10 years, as far as she knew. Bennett had warned her son that if he ever used opioids again, he'd be in greater danger of an overdose because fentanyl, an opioid drug more powerful than heroin, was mixed into much of the supply.

This is a new wrinkle in the "fentanyl-epidemic", there's another article on this as well. They aren't just lacing it with heroin now.

It's not just the overdoses, it's the crime involved in it and it's that a lot of this may be contraband coming over the border.

The border situation went out of control during the Obama years, and drug use has drastically increased. Obama even armed the drug gangs. Liberals don’t prefer to see that side, or any side of illegal aliens other than “they’re hard workers”. They are also criminals.

It seems rather foolish to kill off the clientele. Am I missing something?

True, but its sad the demand is there in the first place. Spiritual crises exist in red states too.

If you’re ignorant enough to be hitting the pipe, I can’t feel sorry for you when something bad happens. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

Anyone caught lacing drugs with Fentanyl should automatically face a firing squad.

You aren’t exactly dealing with people with long time preferences.

I don’t let Bush off the hook. Remember when he sent troops to shore up the border? That tells you what kind of control they had over the situation. Oh, yeah, and he wouldn’t give the troops any ammo. Remember that? That’s how serious the Bushes were about the border problem.

Prohibition works as Quitly Control, it raises prices, weeds out the bad dealers and delivers a Better, lower cost product. Decriminalize and watch the drug market fall apart.

Worse states, I don’t have the best of knowledge in this but right now, it’s hit Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia hard per national news stories. Other places hit pretty hard but not as are Indiana and there seems to be plenty in the North East... and a whole lot of population in the North Eastern states, I did see some sort of map showing the areas hit hardest.

Sounds like there is a good possibility, a fair amount of fentanyl comes from China, but I am no expert. Everyone can research it for themselves. Not most of it, but some comes from China I think. I heard they’ve even found they can get it from there on the dark web.

WHY? Just consider the lacing as increasing the potency of an already illegal drug. Don’t do the drug if you can’t take the deadly hit.

I've never been a hard drug user, so I don't know all the ins and outs of how one becomes an addict, but your comment seems a bit soulless. This isn't a guy who got his license revoked, or got sent to prison or the hospital. This guy is dead. And I bet he never meant for things to go this far.

I did know a guy that had suffered a serious injury in college, had a couple of screws holding various important bones together, and had started out with a permanent Vicodin prescription. Eventually, the Vicodin did nothing for him, but he was hooked. When I knew him, he used to pop Vicodin like candy, drink heavily, and smoke MJ if he had it, but still managed to maintain employment with a top tech company. He did hang with a weird crowd, though, and I came to find out later, from a mutual friend that this weird crowd was all drug addicts, also all professional men, and that my friend had resorted to shooting up at some point to get his pain relief. God knows what else he had been doing by that point. He was otherwise a good guy, though, and if he were found dead one day due to laced whatever, it would be a real tragedy.

Happy ending to his story though: last I heard of him, he had quit all drugs after finding Jesus. He was never a religious guy so I wondered how such a thing could happen. Turns out he became a true believer when, according to him, Jesus healed his injury, and he didn't need the drugs anymore.

Just say NO!

These people make a Choice.

It’s high time the Taxpayers draw the line on just how and where the Tax Dollars are going for each State.

I don’t care..........if your State wants to legalize gateway drugs, ...... don’t come crying to the Tax Payers to bail these people out. I recall the old Democratic battle cry ...”It’s a Choice.” It’s the hard working Tax Payers turn to say.......”It’s a Choice.”
