Good. CAFE standards are ABSURD.
Let the FREE MARKET decide.

Doesn’t look like a very SMART car to me. Looks like someone was trying to recreate the end of the chase scene from the 7 Ups.

Does that mean they’ll stop building cars that shut off at every stoplight?

It's worth noting that the Obama mandated
corporate AVERAGE fuel economy requirement for 2024 is over 50 miles per gallon. This means that EVERY SINGLE vehicle sold by Toyota, Ford, BMW, etc., must produce an average fuel economy this high. For every vehicle getting "only" 50 mpg, an offsetting vehicle getting 60 mpg must be sold. These vehicles are on the drawing boards TODAY. Yet, there's not even a single vehicle today that meets that standard, much less a corporate average (short of electric vehicles, which only meet the standard because the CO2 produced from generating electricity is not included in the measurement).
BILLIONS of dollars are being wasted as I write this designing absurd vehicles that no one really wants to drive, but must be sold if this standard were to become law. Kudos to Trump for killing it now.

The state of California, which has the power to effectively create its own fuel economy standards ...
—
So large is CA that a standard created there forces manufactures to build to that standard lest they lose the economies of scale ... which means that if CA decides to go all electric so will everyone else that buys a new car.

Fuel efficiency measures should be removed from the EPA.
If anyone in the federal government need be concerned with fuel efficiency it should be within the department of energy. If the country continues to have a “CAFE” standard, it should be based on practical science - what’s possible at what cost - not EPA political demands.
Buying a car because it is rated more fuel efficient should be a customer’s choice, not a political demand.

WOW! My next car might not look like a plumbing factory under the hood? Excellent.
IMHO, 30 MPG for cars and 25 MPG for trucks is a reasonable goal engineering and price wise.
Electric cars? Need better battery technology before they will be practical.
