Baltimores top elected officials expressed frustration Wednesday that city government agencies have failed yet again to properly account for how they spent grant dollars.
A new audit of how the city manages millions of dollars in state and federal grants has come to the same conclusion that previous examinations have: Grant money coming into government coffers is not balancing out with what city agencies are spending.
The city is not able to establish accurate balances of grant accounts, city Auditor Audrey Askew told Baltimores spending panel Wednesday.
One possible result, Askew said: The city could lose its much-needed [grant] funding.
And thats a lot of money. The city receives nearly $448 million in grants, or about 16 percent of its $2.8 billion budget.
City Council President Bernard C. Jack Young expressed outrage over the findings, arguing that grant management problems should have been fixed by now.
I dont understand how we can have a problem with grants, said Young, a member of the spending board. That has to really stop. If the grants dont add up
the federal government is going to come and theyre going to want their money. Were going to owe thousands, maybe millions of dollars.

Baltimore is a Black majority, black-run city. The city “fathers” regard grants as just another form of “free $hit” that needn’t be accounted for. I mean they don’t ask Shaquille to account for his EBT money, why should the city have to account for what is essentially “it’s EBT money!” Maybe it “jusss be a form of reparations!”
That place is a hopeless train wreck. This is what incompetent and corrupt government is.
Democrat city.
Now visualize Democrat Party global government.
Shut up and go back to work! Somebody has to pay for the free stuff!
City Council President Bernard C. Jack Young:
“As a 21-year veteran of the City Council, Mr. Young has played a major role in passing legislation that has increased funding for education, crime prevention and helped to spur economic development.”
Funny thing, when you take a look around those “major roles” don’t amount to anything. But I will bet you that old Bernard has a seven figure bank account for his 21 years of “servicing” the good folks of Ballmore!
check the recipients’ private bank accounts.
It would very helpful is the Feds who give grants, cease and desist giving further to any entity unable to account for the grants and/or not used as stated on the grant application. Play hardball.
Baltimore needs to be taken over by robots. It would be a great improvement.
Does anything happen to anybody if they can’t account for the money? Or do they just scream “racist” and move on?

Replace that with “CROOKED DEMOCRAT OFFICIALS CAUGHT STEALING CITY FUNDS”
A Bentley in every driveway?
(Plus a beater to drive to downtown work, or course.)
Md ping. Dont miss this that just popped up.
Yes, massa.
My prediction: Baltimore will be the first city run by algorithms. Some people are too stupid to be free.
$448 million in grants——Just crumbs.
How can this be? I have personally managed $100 million in federal and state Grant’s and have never had a single audit finding.
Grants are drawn based upon invoice for services rendered with proof being the attached city/county approved invoice.
Fed $’s are ours. Yes, the us taxpayers’. Before LBJ’s handouts, I worked unloading boxcars in summer 1962. Working beside me, sweating their fannies off too, were black men from 21-65. There were no handouts then. You worked or you did not eat. There was no free healthcare, food stamps, AA, Sec 8, etc. We need to quit AA, and all freebies. LBJ started this downfall.
