If it was a classified mission, they would say absolutely nothing, lawyer up and let it play out very quietly. Blabbing right away tells me that he is nuts.

Might be a clever tactic: arm up a couple rubes and have them turn themselves in with a lot of “scary assault rifles” without shooting anyone first.
This way, no one actually gets hurt yet the effect is the same, stirring up fear and loathing for those with guns.
It’s a “win-win”, for the “Them”.

Appears to me that this was never going to go hot. Just a couple of hired extras complete with stage props to cause more “concern” designed to keep pushing for gun control and confiscation.
