North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un made a last-minute visit to Beijing Monday; marking the first time the brutal despot has left the Hermit Kingdom since taking control following his fathers death in 2011.
According to Bloomberg, the details of the trip remain murky with three North Korean officials confirming the leaders visit to the Chinese capital.
The unannounced journey comes as the United States and North Korea prepare for their first face-to-face meeting between the communist ruler and President Trump; following months of escalating tensions between the two nations.
If this meeting is confirmed, it may actually be more productive than a photo op between Trump and Kim in a few weeks, said Melissa Hanham, an expert in North Korean studies.
North Korea is often perceived as an ungrateful junior brother, but recent tensions and increased nuclear and missile capabilities mean Chinas taking this seriously and doesnt want to be left out of the process, she added.
Presumably, part of whats on the agenda is the Chinese want a sense of what Kim expects or is seeking in the meeting with the U.S., if it ever occurs, as well as their attempt, of course, to influence it, said another expert.
‘Norks’ are North Koreans, an SU-27 is a Russian copy of an F-15, and a Manpad is a Man-portable air-defense system.
Chappaqua?
This is the REAL FIRST time!!!
I dunno :)
“See, Leader Kim? Your country can have all this AND thumb your nose at the United States! Just sell them cheap products until they’re $20 trillion in debt!”
It would appear some read the headline only.....one of the reasons people are often mistakenly quick with knee jerk reactions.
China has confirmed that Fatboy-un has visited Beijing and met pres. Xi apparently pledged commitment to de-nuclearising the Korean peninsula. But Xinhua state news agency said that Kim had been in China on an unofficial visit from Sunday to Wednesday.
Did Kimmy bring Sissy?
No...doesn’t appear so. As usual Fat Boy wants the photo shoots to play out back home to show what a “great Leader” he is.
I suspect part of the deal was to give him these welcomes....likely moon will on his visit as well..which is next.
China wants to look like the ‘hero’ in this on the world stage thus taking the lead.
Better to deal with the devil you know than the devil you dont.
May he never make it back.
