~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Vandenberg Air Force Base, California

Vandenberg Air Force Base is a United States Air Force Base located 9.2 miles northwest of Lompoc, California. It is under the jurisdiction of the 30th Space Wing, Air Force Space Command (AFSPC).

Vandenberg AFB is a Department of Defense space and missile testing base, with a mission of placing satellites into polar orbit from the West Coast using expendable boosters (Pegasus, Taurus, Minotaur, Atlas V, Delta IV and now SpaceX's Falcon). Wing personnel also support the Service's LGM-30G Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Force Development Evaluation program.

The host unit at Vandenberg AFB is the 30th Space Wing. The 30th SW is home to the Western Range, manages Department of Defense space and missile testing, and places satellites into near-polar orbits from the West Coast.

Wing personnel also support the Air Force's Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Force Development Test and Evaluation program. The Western Range begins at the coastal boundaries of Vandenberg and extends westward from the California coast to the Western Pacific, including sites in Hawaii. Operations involve dozens of federal and commercial interests.

The 30th Launch Group is responsible for booster and satellite technical oversight and launch processing activities to include launch, integration and test operations. The group consists of an integrated military, civilian and contractor team with more than 250 personnel directly supporting operations from the Western Range.

The 30th Operations Group provides the core capability for West Coast spacelift and range operations. Operations professionals are responsible for operating and maintaining the Western Range for spacelift, missile test launch, aeronautical and space surveillance missions.

Way after school, but AGHS was not far from where I lived, and just a few blocks from my best friends. Both their sons went there.

Did you go there?

That is gorgeous! It’s hard to believe it’s flowers from the air. I never knew they did that. I just knew they raised a lot of lettuce. I had my first Carls Jr hamburger in Lompoc. LOL!

You lived in a beautiful part of CA. And it seemed like any small town. Do you think you’ll visit your friends there again sometime soon? A vacation would be a wonderful thing for you!

Arroyo is where I went every Thanksgiving since I came to Alaska, but I haven’t had a vacation since 2010.

Traveling is not high on my list, but I will get back there to visit eventually.

The Red Flag Warning has been lifted for now. We may end up going back under it at some point. Really do need the rain.

Sometimes Penny comes with me to visit my friend, but sometimes not. This was one of those “not” times, as it was too cold to walk the dogs, and my friend has two German Shepherds, one male and the other female. The female is named Stella.

Stella is VERY Jealous of Penny when she comes over and plays with her “male”.

Kind of like “Streetcar named Desire”

STELLLAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy First Day of Spring, Early Birds!
It's sunny and clear here.
And 40 degrees. LOL!
That's a bit chilly, but I'll take it.
By Thursday, it's supposed to be 93.
Ugh!!
Hope all y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!
Do something spring-y!
Like...hubby scalped the lawn.
Turns out there was grass under the thatch! :)
((((hugs))))

No, but a friend who I coached with at SLO HS went on
to be AP History teacher there. He resides close to AGHS.
