EU proposes visa restrictions on countries refusing to take back illegal migrants

The European Commission (EC) on Wednesday announced plans to penalize citizens from countries that refuse to take back illegal migrants by restricting visas.

Under new rules proposed by the EC, countries that fail to cooperate on illegal migrant returns could face a restrictive visa policy. The restrictions may include longer visa processing times, higher costs, fewer exemptions given to visiting diplomats or greater restrictions on the length of time they can stay in the EU.

"The new rules will provide for a regular assessment by the Commission of non-EU countries' cooperation on return," the Commission said.

EU countries have had difficultly repatriating migrants who do not qualify for asylum or people who overstay their visas. Under international law, the EU is required to settle people fleeing from war or persecution, but does not have to take in economic migrants.

If Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic leave, the EU is in deep trouble.

Do it!

Who needs visas? Just visit countries and do it without visas... call yourselves "migrants", what can they say to that?

This presupposes that the EU plans to deport millions of phony baloney refugees (parasites and jihadists). The EU doesn't. This is just some public relations dreamed up by the likes of Angela Merkel. Thanks Berlin_Freeper.

#1 this is about the EU kicking out non-EU illegals

#2 If the Visegrad countries leave it leaves a hole in the EU but that will not "put the EU in deep trouble". We will have bigger problems if we leave the EU (and I don't like the EU, I prefer the older EC model)

I still want to know why President Trump hasn’t followed through on his promise similarly? Why do we still have uninterrupted trade, H1B and L1 and other visa workers and all from India, for example? They still do not take back deportees. I say kick out all H1B, L1, and other visa holders, stop future ones until they take everyone back.

“President Trump hasn’t followed through on his promise similarly?”..........

Wasn’t it just those countries that were not “friendly” with the U.S.? Memory fails me these days.

As of June 2019

“According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior’s figures for last year, 23,617 rejected asylum-seekers were deported in 2018. This sounds like a lot. But in the same period, about 31,000 deportations failed for various reasons. In most cases, this was because travel documents were missing. However, it was often also because deportees simply disappeared before the planned departure.

The fact is also that only 12,099 rejected asylum-seekers left the country last year as part of the government-funded “voluntary return” scheme. A further interesting figure is that as of 31 December 2018, 236,000 foreigners with the status, “required to leave the country,” were in Germany. Not all are rejected asylum-seekers but by far the majority.”
