She is using the word medicine to convince herself of the banality of act and dodge the guilt, but I doubt it is working. I think she is seeking external criticism and contempt because she can feel defensive about what she does if the criticism is all external. It is that inner voice of contempt that she cannot bear, because she knows that what she does is indefensible. As long as that inner conscience is drowned out by exterior criticism, she can (sort of) avoid facing the fact that she is a cold-blooded murderer.
