PETER HITCHENS: We're goading Russia into a 'dirty war' we CANNOT win
DailyMail.com ^ | 3/10/2018 | Peter Hitchens

Posted on 03/11/2018 6:11:08 AM PDT by Nextrush

As I so often tell you not to be taken in by the current anti-Russian frenzy, you might expect me to have some opinions on the horrible events in Salisbury. And so I do.

I was reluctant to believe without proof that this was a Russian state operation. I still think some people have jumped too readily to conclusions without facts.

But the more I look at it, the more I think that the message from this outrage is as follows.

If Britain really wants a war with Russia, as our Government seems to, then Russia will provide that war.

But it will not be fought according to the Geneva Conventions. It will be according to the law of the jungle.......

I expected an "incident" with the Russian presidential election upon us.

This is Hitchens take.

Getting into a conflict with Russia will again reveal the impotence of the once mighty "British Empire".

It may be used to distract from Brexit and promote the need to align with the EU but hopefully US-UK ties would be strengthened.

Between this and matters in Syria, are we all being "sent to the Russian Front" like they used to say on "Hogan's Heroes" with the laugh track.

But this is no joke.

A Russian spy just nerve-gassed two Russian nationals in a pub near Stonehenge. Now anyone who ate there recently is being advised to destroy their clothes, get rid of their eyeglasses and I don’t know what else. This is at least the second attack in Great Britain by Kremlin crooks. Between that and Christopher Steele, it sounds to me more like Britain has a problem with Russkies, not us.

I think Hitchens lived too long in Moscow. These people are put under pressure and sometimes they break. Why the self-flagellation over what was a brazen Russian attack on Britain?

It’s liberals that have caused the bad relations with Russia.

Syria has been a Russian ally for a very long time. I can understand their desire to support them. If they don’t, they lose credibility with their other allies.

obama and his red lines. obama and hillary with their aggression to overthrow Libya. obama and hillary’s support for the muslim brotherhood overthrowing Egypt. The list is long. The left (this means democrats and a lot of the GOPe and other swamprats) is gifted at getting us into wars and then blaming others.

Candidate Trump wanted to work more closely with Russia but the made up Russian collusion BS has made it more difficult for us and the Russians. Trump wanted us to work together where we had common goals — ISIS, etc. The left keeps us from working for a common good all in the name of their politics.

People in the Hillary and Anti Trump camp have targeted that all throughout the campaign. It’s all part of the death to America marxist muslim coalition who are pushing against President Trump.

Its the muslims dream to see the two largest Christian based super powers at war with one another!

Hitchens is asking the same the of logical questions posed by Trump
Why the unending war?

He doesn't mention the war of sanctions which TPTB assure us is one of only two choices to contain Russian expansionism - the other being military conflict. If you question either of these policies of endless warfare vs Russia- even to consider whether there are other ways to coexist- you are a " collusionist " or a " Putinista"

Ukraine and Syria are being held up as historical tests of Western resolve to contain Russia and its Persian adjunct ally- as if failure will alter and threaten global security - which is based on US hegemony with the British French and Benelux united to keep the Germans and Russians divided and neither one in domination of middle Europe

We talk a good story about a “ multipolar world” and mutual respect
But that is just to reassure ourselves and others of why the US has to stay on top
That's why Brexit is such a threat to globalism- it allows the European continental rimland - Britain - some independence of determining its real security interests
Also why Trump is such a threat
An honest man like Hitchens, questioning what is really best for his country first

Actually he was a Russian citizen but working as British spy ( or double or triple agent) and no one knows or is admitting why he was targeted
For betraying Russia? or for being a liability or expendable asset in an operation in danger of being rolled up?
British press is reporting he had ties to Orbis, the company run by ex- MI6 agent Christopher Steele of Trump dossier fame
Was he one of Steele’s sources for the dossier?
Who would want him dead more? Putin or Deep state?
It has been pointed out that if this was Putin it was stupid
Bad timing, bungled operation
Putin does not do stupid or bungled
If Putin wanted the guy dead he’d be dead and without 100 victims, 200 witnesses and mass contamination of a British city

I am not so taken in by hostility to Russia. Those behind it serve other interests like those of Saudi Arabia, China and Israel.

The United States should be focused on China and not on Russia.

President Trump supports Israel in regards to Iran, but I don’t think he counts war with Russia as a solution.

Who knows what the real story is, but what is Christopher Steele up to nowadays?

Thanks for untangling that for me. The coverage has been sporadic in the British papers and practically ignored here.

I’ll go with Deep State for now because I think they’re a bigger threat at the moment. Again, thanks.

Going native is a common theme among expats. I’ve noticed these western Putinist converts often end up the most radical. Just like muslims. Ha ha.

Nonsense. Liberals love Russia. Liberal Western Europeans cant wait to sell all of Eastern Europe to Russia. Putin buys them off for sport.

There was also the Ex-KGB named Alexander Litvinenko who died from radiation poisoning. Don’t ask how such a hazardous materials got into Britain, but it did.

Trump campaigned to work more closely with the Russians on common goals. Liberals have made that more difficult. There are other things we can work with the Russians on but liberals have made it almost impossible.

Russia is not cold war Russia but libs are forcing them back in that direction. Obama hurt relations with Russia and so did Hillary. I consider both of them to be liberals.

Curl up in the corner and ignore the world around you because it is too messy to deal with reality.

Besides, its too expensive to fight for stuff you don’t really believe in.....

Nope. Liberals undermine a GOP POTUS. Nothing new there and that has zero to do with Russia.

The Dems were already planning another “Russian reset” with Putin assuming Hillary was going to win.

The likes of Hillary and Schroeder are happy to stuff their pockets with Putin’s cash. Always have been, always will be.
