A space at a Baltimore park that had long honored two Confederate generals has been rededicated to abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
The Baltimore Sun reports that hundreds of people gathered Saturday for the ceremony at Wyman Park Dell. The ceremony took place just feet from the now-empty pedestal where a large statue of Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson once stood.
The statue was removed in August after a violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia reignited the national debate over what to do with symbols of the Confederacy.
Saturday was the 105th anniversary of Tubman's death. The space was renamed Harriet Tubman Grove.

" Its usual luster, however, has been sullied by vandals who graffitied Black Lives Matter, Smash White Supremacy, Terrorists and Remember Ceville. Sitting atop is a heroic size bronze sculpture, known as the Lee and Jackson Monument It depicts General Robert E. Lee riding his horse, Traveller, and Stonewall Jackson following suit with Little Sorrel.
Madre Luz, a statue depicting a pregnant black woman, stands defiantly in its path. Wearing a rainbow sash her breasts and pregnant belly are exposed. Her skin color is uneven and the texture rough from the papier-mâché layered upon chickenwire. A child clings to her back as she holds her left arm raised high, fist clenched and adorned in gold glitter. Some call her Black Lady Liberty, while others refer to her as Lady Liberty of Black Power."
The words escape me. Our history is being destroyed - erased and soon forgotten.
They neglect to say who started the violence - antifa/progressives (communists).
all due respect to Harriet Tubman, but I won’t be visiting soon....Robert Lee was an American soldier, who ended up representing a whole swatch of America during the civil war....he deserves respect as well...
Honestly, those aholes don’t deserve a statue of Lee or Jackson in their midsts. Move the statues somewhere they’ll be respected and enjoyed.
Yes, history being erased.
There’s no reason to believe that in the future a Tubman memorial will receive any better treatment than Lee or Jackson.
History is being rewritten by a 'Flash Mob'
and political correctness.
When we forget human history,
both it's successes and failures,
... it will reoccur !
Ignorant low I.Q. gutter rats. How dare these human trash desecrate Lee’s statue. I spit on them. They should tear down that ugly “pregnant black woman” statue, which has no artistic value whatsoever. Lee is part of U.S. history, which should be remembered.
And that’s too bad because, as a 61 year old white guy, raised in Wisconsin and residing in the south for the last 20 years, I’d have to say that Tubman’s story is incredibly moving. She’s an impressive figure in our nation’s history, and deserves greater recognition. It just doesn’t have to be to the specific exclusion of this statue. Unfortunately, a lot of blacks view justice (and history) as a team sport. Sigh.
The rally in Charlottesville was only “violent” because the commie fags in the far left “mainstream media” said it was “violent”. What a crock. The fake news “media” turning “fake news” into history already.
Those who lose sight of the past, will
forever be blind to the future....
Many societies had slaves. The truth
is the US was responsible for only
3% of the total slave trade in the
America’s during the period most blacks
protest. The first slave owner in the
US was a black man. It’s sad that for
recognizing what slavery is, they would
just as soon wipe it from future memories.
Please. If it wasn't that, it would have been something else. If a completely unrelated event could make it be removed, its days were numbered.
Also, the media is an echo chamber, as I feel like I've read this exact sentence 100 times in a hundred different articles.
The irony of it all is that Tubman was a cigar chewin’ pistol packin’ Republican.
Where words can mean anything, they can also mean nothing.
WTH is wrong with Fox News? There was as much violence by Antifa as there was by the right in Charlotteville — with the exception of the lone act by a single, certified wacko in an auto...
Harriet Tubman? Was she fighting against something? If history is erased, well never know.
A statue base is a plinth.
