Trump’s Stunningly Effective North Korea Policy Leaves Professional Diplomatic Corps Gobsmacked
CTH ^ | March 8, 2018

The statement tonight by South Korean National Security Adviser Chung Eui-yong is so jaw-dropping in significance it has left the professional diplomatic apparatus stunned.

A year of targeted and strategic geopolitical policy execution by President Trump, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley has resulted in North Korean leader Kim Jong-un accepting denuclearization and requesting a meeting with President Trump to achieve terms therein.

The possibility of a willingly denuclearized Korean peninsular is such an astounding policy victory; it is difficult to conceptualize. Here’s the statement from South Korea’s Chung Eui-yong:

“Good evening, today I had the privilege of briefing President Trump on my recent visit to Pyongyang, North Korea. I’d like to thank President Trump, the vice-president and his wonderful national security team, including my close friend General McMaster.”

“I thanked President Trump that his leadership, and his maximum pressure policy together with international solidarity, brought us to this juncture. I expressed President Moon Jae-in’s personal gratitude for President Trump’s leadership.”

“I told President Trump that in our meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he is committed to denuclearization. Kim pledged that North Korea will refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests; he understands that the routine joint military exercises between the Republic of Korea and the United States must continue. And he expressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible.”

These are the idiots who bestowed the same medal on Obama... when The Usurper had barely been in office a few months.

Obama got it for one reason only. He was the first "person of color" elected president of the US. It had nothing to do with peace and everything to do with Leftist identity politics. So any rational person who invests any meaning in the Nobel prize is a fool.

“Denuclearize the peninsula and US troops leave as well. A win-win for everybody.”

Don’t be a fool. It’s been NK strategy for 50 years to remove the US from protecting SK. They developed their nukes and ICBMs as a deterrent to US defense of SK. If the US leaves the Norks will suddenly ‘find’ some of their misplaced nukes and extort SK and deter the West. They never keep their word. They’re a terrorist regime. That’s what they do. I’d sooner trust ISIS than NK.

The difference between 1994 and now is the US won’t meekly look the other way if/when the Norks violate the agreement. Bill Clinton and Madeleine Albright were nothing more than Kim Jong-il’s kept bitches.

"the professional diplomatic apparatus"

I wonder what Trump suggested.

Maybe the words *glass parking lot* slipped out?

*Arkancide*?

*Nuke you from orbit*?

Kimchi does not want to lose face. A tete a` tete with an equal is a photo-op propaganda victory for Kimchi, no matterwhat the outcome.

Good point!

How so? Kim has done nothing but paint the US as the great Satan, blah, blah, blah. How does it make him look better among his own people to meet with people he’s been verbally attacking on nearly a daily basis for years? And, given his position, why should he even CARE what his people think? It’s not like they’re going to overthrow him.

Guam would be a good place to meet.

They now have a no-tipping policy.

You really don’t think the calculus has changed here? That Trump is basically Clinton, that Tillerson is basically Albright, that 2018 is basically 1995? Come on.

The only “diplomatic coup” there will be is when North Korea is verifiably free of nukes, missile delivery systems, plutonium, uranium and their top scientists have been bought off and removed, or outright eliminated. The only “Agreement” that will be valid will be one signed with a regime that is not of the Kim Family in any fashion whatsoever or the Korean Workers Party. In short, this is a lot of celebrating over optics only and is entirely premature and highly inappropriate.

His “talks” will fail.

And will do so with days or weeks of this meeting. It is a forgone conclusion because NO AGREEMENT with the regime will be honored.

If this (much re: Trump actually), and the Brexit export story, don’t show the folly to We the People....

Govt ‘needing’ to be ‘run’ by elite educated, blue-blooded, living-in-an-echo-chamber...Is it no wonder *NOTHING* get accomplished, let alone for We the People (the *outsiders*, the smelly riff-raft [Reid], pleebs and serfs).

The annual joint exercise should continue. The norks are not to be trusted until there is cold, hard proof that they have denuked.

They will lie, lie and lie more. They've done this three times in the past

“Honestly, it’s not that they’re stupid.”

It looks like you’re referring to hubris, a self-induced form of stupidity. I’d be relieved if it were just that, and not something more worrisome.
