North Korea is willing to talk about getting rid of its nuclear weapons but only if its own safety can be guaranteed, South Korea says.
The South says the subject was raised when its officials met with the North's leader, Kim Jong-un, in Pyongyang on Monday, during a rare visit.
They said Mr Kim is also open to US talks, and would pause weapons testing.
In previous programmes to halt its nuclear ambitions, the North has failed to keep its promises.
The leaders of North and South Korea have also agreed to meet at a summit next month, Seoul's envoy says.
It will be the first such meeting for more than a decade and the first since Kim Jong-un took power in North Korea.

You make an excellent point. Ghaddafi had pretty much been de-fanged and then Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton pretty much unilaterally decided to kill him.
If true this is ALL Trump giving NK a way to save face. If they don’t do that I have a sneaking suspicion that Donald Trump told them in no uncertain terms that they were going to lose their country.

The US and China can jointly, via treaty, ensure the integrity of the borders of Norklandia in exchange for a complete and VERIFIED disarmament. The verification must be by a joint team of US and Chinese military technicians.
However, Norklandia is lying and just stalling for time to perfect/buy/steal an ICBM capable of threatening US cities.

Safety can’t be guaranteed, so its a non-starter.
The Olympics are over and a new game is needed. Rather that sabre rattling, faux olive branches will be put out for viewing.
Sever relations with the United States and we are willing to discuss disarmament.
1. Sign a complete peace treaty to replace the armistice agreement that ended the Korean War.
2. Remove the DMZ and all fortifications on both sides.
3. Allow free travel in both directions.
4. Joint command of all Korean military units by both sides.
5. Open ALL NK military and nuke sites to full US and South Korean inspectors.
