David French, the one-time hope of the NeverTrump faction, has summed up the reasons why the left cannot win in its anti-Second Amendment crusade. Owing to his status as an enemy of Trump, French has access to prominent organs of the left. In National Review, he explains how he is trying to persuade the left to give up its gun-grabbing dreams (and presumably become more effective in their opposition to Trump):

The NRA has gathered thousands of new members since the Parkland, FL shooting. The people will not give up their right to defend themselves and their families.
If we keep flooding this nation with people from socialist countries we’re going to lose all our right eventually.
They can win this November.
If they take the Senate, Trump will have to appoint a moderate (if there is such a thing) judge to SCOTUS when RBG or Kennedy kicks off.
That would also derail the other judgeships that need to be filled.
Remember, the Left doesn't win at the polls on these kinds of ideas....they do it through the courts.
That day is fast approaching. Even if Trump wins in 2020, it's just a matter of time before we completely become Europe.
The left will not win on gun control because there will be civil war first and they will lose.

It doesn’t really matter what legislation is passed or what the courts say. There are about 350million guns in the hands of law abiding U.S. citizens. I can’t imagine how much ammo is out there in private hands. What exactly will these Marxists do once they pass their gun bans?

Well, it seems to me that French had made an argument pretty much demolishing the left’s rationale for gun control.
So what do you do? You gratuitously attack French, by suggesting without evidence that he has some kind of base motive and hidden agenda.
Perverse thinking? You betcha. And it certainly ain’t the way to win friends and allies on this important issue.

Its estimated that the GOP will pick up 2-6 senate seats this year. Highly unlikely that we lose the senate.

First they would have to amend the constitution to abolish the 2nd Amendment which would require 3/4 of states to approve the change. Not likely.

Yes, the Left will never surrender on gun grabbing because it is essential to their plans and ultimate goal of tyranny.
Their big chance is in that they are relentless and Repubs tend to get lackadaisical at the worst possible times...we have as many big mouths as they do and too many of our big mouths tend to stop short of any sort of action/funding activities.

No, all they need is the right 5 guys on the Supreme Court to rule that the 2nd Amendment means members of the National Guard while on duty.

I was in downtown Charleston today and there was a small group of liberal seasoned citizens with a mic and a 60s looking sign. They got a lot of strange looks.
