Social media came down on Gary Oldman's win as well.
Kobe Bryant took home an Oscar for an animated short film yesterday evening, for his short Dear Basketball, a choice some thought inappropriate given the Times Up and #MeToo themes of the 90th Academy Awards.
Bryant was arrested and charged with sexual assault in 2003 when a 19-year-old woman accused him of rape. The basketball star claimed the encounter was consensual, however, and the case fizzled out when the woman said she did not want to testify in court.
Bryant apologized to the woman, and a little over a year after the incident, in 2005, they settled the civil assault case for undisclosed terms.
As basketball players, we’re told to shut up and dribble, Bryant said in his acceptance speech, a reference to Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who remarked that athletes should stay out of politics. Im glad we did a little bit more than that.
Condemnation on Twitter was immediate, with several high-profile users casting shade on the former Los Angeles Lakers stars win.
people say that rape allegations will ruin a mans life but here is Kobe winning an Oscar in front of my own eyes

So we’re all just… ignoring the whole Kobe rape accusation thing I guess huh?

I think Kobe Bryant is an amazing basketball player. I also think he raped that girl and got away with it because hes an amazing basketball player.
Both things can exist as the truth.

Let me get this straight. Last night’s theme was all about treating women with respect. So who wins an #Oscar2018? @kobebryant, who was credibly accused of rape, paid the accuser a settlement and issued her a written apology! Can’t make this up?

Watching the Academy hand out Oscars to alleged rapists and abusers in between all the #MeToo speeches made for some real mixed messaging.

Another first-time Oscar winner, Gary Oldman, took home Best Actor for his performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Some on social media roped the actor into their criticism of Bryant, reminding readers that Oldman also stands accused of domestic abuse.
Oldmans ex-wife Donya Fiorentino claimed during their divorce that Oldman choked and beat her as their small children watched, crying.
Despite Hollywoods furious attempts to wash its hands of the bad reputation it has earned from its history of sexual misconduct, this year saw more accused men awarded Oscars than last year did.
However, James Franco was snubbed and Casey Affleck withdrew his appearance; both men have been accused of inappropriate sexual behavior. Affleck won Best Actor last year.
Shut up you are arguing with your own ass
She had been choke hard enough to have her neck covered in bruises and they found her blood on the scene (not from sex, but from violence). He beat and choke her. Im sure it was all fun and games. Of course during the initial interview he told the cops he never touched her.
Wow. Kobe Bryant’s accuser must have got her sanity back. During the pre-trial itself, the media leaked her name (they claim it’s wrong to leak the victim’s name but violated their own rule for Kobe’s sake), implied she was a slut, implied she was a gold-digger with Hollywood fantasies and the sports media did a total slut shaming job on her in order to protect their meal ticket. NOW they want to come out and say they BELIEVED her??? How Con-VEEEEN-ient!! Where was all this #MeToo support when she needed it? Hope somebody crams that Oscar right up your ass, Kobe.
Oh Herman, Herman, Herman.......what a well thought out post.
Um, not........
Apparently Bill Cosby turned them down.
There was no trial or conviction for Kobe or Oldman. Mere accusations are now to ruin a man forever!
I don’t like Kobe, but if you read up on the case, you could never have voted to convict him.
She also have the semen of 3 different men in her panties she turned over to police and none of it was from Kobe or her boyfriend!!
Superior at absorbing incoming solar radiation, superior at absorbing incoming terran accusation.
Forcible sodomy is worse than rape. She said no to that and tried to get away, but he did it anyway. Corrupt case in a corrupt place. As for the lies that came out of the administration of the so-called civil settlement,...
At least, that was what she said. There was also the mention in the local media about bloody underwear. Anyway, the case was hideous. The media there went after her reputation pretty hard with published speculation and exposed her identity.
Research it objectively. The proof is in the pudding!
