A Minnesota House committee put on hold Thursday two bills that would have added new restrictions on guns. The bills would expand background checks and allow police to take away guns from people suffering a mental health crisis.
Hundreds of people showed up at the Capitol to watch the debate. They spilled out into hallways and hearing rooms. Gun rights supporters wore buttons reading “due process” and labelled one measure the “Guilty Until Proven Innocent Bill.” Some lawmakers called it unconstitutional.
Despite high emotion, both sides were unusually friendly. Two protesters arrived on opposite sides, but found common ground.
“We are both against violence,” Robert Stewart, of Lakeville, said. “We’re both against school shootings.” The vote by Republicans to stop the gun measures means both bills are likely dead for the year.
Gun safety advocates here said they expect to make it a big issue in the 2018 election.
Other gun-related bills are waiting for debate at the Capitol. They include an assault weapons ban and one on school security.
For now.
It is likely that the more and more that came out revealing the stunning incompetence that led to and was part of that tragic day in Florida last month has had what firearms prohibitionists thought a very sure thing at the start (in terms of new restrictions en masse in the name of that tragedy) is now sinking fast.
They are never taking our guns. The guns we own are the only thing we have between us and communist tyranny. There are over 1 billion guns in our country. It is far more that the 300,000,000 they want to say because 60% are well beyond their tracking capability. We have a right to keep and bear arms — not to hunt birds but to save us from tyrannical governments. So TO HELL with them!! Why don’t they confiscate guns from blacks in Chicago first? HA!!!

As Rush pointed out today, the Democrats are DESPERATE not to have this solved.
They want the issue, and it doesn’t matter how many kids are killed, they are desperate to continue the issue.

I heard that today. He said this would happen. They never want to solve the problems. If they did what would they bluster around about and raise money?
Minnesota liberals can pass all the gun bills they want but the criminals will continue to ignore them. More people than ever have concealed carry permits in Minnesota and the crime rate by gun has dropped.
Yeah, another 57 some odd thousand new permits to carry granted in MN last year.
If they can’t pass it in Minnesota...then a lot of the rest of us are in the free & clear.
Trump will get to making sure this info comes out before the smoke clears.
