Fewer high school seniors in the District are expected to receive a diploma in June than the year before, a sharp reversal for a school system that had celebrated a 20-point increase in its graduate rate since 2011.
Data released Thursday by D.C. Public Schools show that 42 percent of seniors attending traditional public schools are on track to graduate, while 19 percent are considered moderately off-track, meaning they could still earn enough credits to earn a diploma.
The likely drop in the graduation rate is the latest fallout from an investigation that cast doubt on the validity of diplomas awarded last year. The graduation rate in 2017 was 73 percent, but the probe revealed that one in three graduates received their diplomas in violation of city policy. Those students had walked across the graduation stage despite missing too many classes or improperly taking makeup classes.
Even if all of the students regarded as moderately off-track receive diplomas, the graduation rate this year would stand at about 61 percent 12 percentage points below last year.

Luke Rosiak says: "Bigger scandal is up to 1/2 of DCPS students actually live in MD+Bowser's admin kept residency fraud audit findings secret.
MD fraudsters do better in school than DC kids, tho, which partly explains blind eye.
With 42% graduating, it's likely that only 10% of DC residents are."

p to fraudulent stats
Nothin’ from Nothin’ Leaves Nothin’ ?
42% on track to graduate?? Less than half are expected to graduate?? Is this correct.?
Is this good news for this school district???
“MD fraudsters do better in school than DC kids, tho, which partly explains blind eye.”
Prince George’s County, in MD on the east side of DC, has the same kind of grade scandal brewing, but has been much quieter about it.
That’s about 42% of the story too.
Not only will only 42% graduate, they are only asked to know about 42% as much as their 1917 counterparts, same age group.
On top of that, those 1917 kids were taught the positives about our nation.
These kids are taught to loath our nation.
A diploma is worthless if you haven’t learned anything. Believe me, anyone attending a DC public school isn’t learning squat. Spread the word-—Take your kids out of public school.
Have all the teachers and administrators gotten their merit bonuses yet?
That's not the worst six-year graduation rate in the country (Southern University at New Orleans has a six-year graduation rate of 5%) but it doesn't sound very impressive. But I'm sure having a diploma from UDC will open a lot of doors.
Probably because ICE deported all of their “valedictorians”.
I’ve seen what masquerades for a math test in one of the DC magnet high schools. Not the average HS, a MAGNET school for the brightest kids. It was almost all multiple choice and the level of the questions was something I’d expect most 6th graders to be able to answer. On top of that, the percentage of correct answers needed to pass was very low. (I can’t remember exactly, but I’m thinking 50%.)
The teachers/libs are so desperate to “prove” that these kids are smart that they are just fine with faking the data in order to “prove” it.
This is not a condemnation of the kids. Some of them are actually great kids, kids you’d love to know, to have for neighbors. But not very many Mensa candidates.
