Albuquerque police are calling the man who shot and killed another man at Yale and Gibson on Sunday evening a hero who may have prevented a murder.
Officer Simon Drobik, a police spokesman, said charges are not likely to be filed against the 34-year-old man, but the final decision will be up to the District Attorneys Office.
The man, an Uber driver who has served in the National Guard for 12 years, intervened in a domestic violence altercation that led to the shooting, police said.
Drobik told reporters that Xiao Gong, who owns an Albuquerque hotel, was driving her daughter to the Albuquerque International Sunport around 5 p.m. Sunday when her estranged husband, Qian Ming, 66, intentionally crashed his car into Gongs truck near the intersection.
After the wreck, Ming ran toward the two women and fired into the car, striking the daughter in the shoulder. He then pulled the daughter from the car and started violently pistol whipping her in the street, Drobik said.
Thats when the guardsman pointed his weapon at Ming and told him to stop. Drobik said Ming pointed the gun at the man, who feared for his safety and shot and killed Ming.
To say the least, this guy prevented possibly a double homicide. Thats what we could have on our hands tonight, Drobik said. In my 19 years of experience, I would say that those two females would have been dead if he hadnt stepped in and took action.

The hero may or may not have a concealed carry permit. NM law considers your car an extension of your home and you may carry there without a permit.
However, I don't know whether Uber allows their drivers to have weapons in their cars.
(Slim, correct me if I'm wrong)

Won’t get mentioned on the fake news media... that considers guns eevil.
You know - that woman and child should have been allowed to die so liberals could score another cheap political shot against the NRA.
Assuming the description of events is accurate it sounds like a cut-and-dried case of self defense, and defense of others.
Good story, good ending. Guns do have a perfect place in a civil society.
.... and since this is America, lawyers will tell the wife and daughter they need to sue the hero for every dollar they can get..... /s
Killing someone is a traumatic event for a non-psychopath, no matter how much the deceased needed killing.
Best outcome: the gunman is dead and he won’t have the chance himself to sue the hero. I doubt the wife and daughter will sue otherwise without the intervention they would have been dead.
Tagline...
I don't think Uber wants its drivers armed, but that's one of those rules that was made to be ignored (this incident proves why). He may lose his Uberability, but so what!
Just doing the job a politician wont due.
Congratulations and Thank You Citizen Uber Gaurdsman for doing what was right.
That was a very difficult situation to successfully intervene in.
Given the perp had already used his weapon and the hero had to access his weapon, put himself in a proper position, give warning, and then fire accurately.
As for risking his Uber job....small price.
“That was a very difficult situation to successfully intervene in”
no kidding. nearly unbelievable. this guy was cool as ice and acted perfectly. reminds me of Rayland Givens in “Justified”.
I wouldn’t drive an usher unless I was armed.
I said “/s”
I'd add, Venezuela.
There are many choices.
I just pulled the Norks out of my NRA Hat.
I guess I could have said Baltimore or Chicago too. LOL
I saw it, but wanted to emphasize that the gunman being dead is the best out come for both those shot and the shooter. If he was alive, some scumbag attorney would take the shooter hero to court for violation of the gunman's rights.
Seems like Uber would have to provide the vehicles to have standing in keeping weapons out...worst they can do is ban him fro working for them and that seems like a bad business decision considering the story.
Good for the Guardsman. He did the right thing but we’ll probably never hear of it on the national news.
