However, I don't know whether Uber allows their drivers to have weapons in their cars. Seems like Uber would have to provide the vehicles to have standing in keeping weapons out...worst they can do is ban him fro working for them and that seems like a bad business decision considering the story.

I don't think it's purely Uber's business decision, but rather may be a mandate from their liability insurance company.
