Amazon doesn’t have millions of books in stock. They have the books-in-print catalog incorporated in their interface.

That is true but it doesn't change the fact that Amazon has a far deeper catalog then your average bookstore. Personally I don't care if they have them in stock or are printing on demand.

Printing on demand actually makes more sense and should bring down cost as well as make the catalog much larger. In fact, no reason not to offer any book every printed if it can be printed on demand.

A minimum wage hike should work just the opposite. If you are going to have to pay manager rates, you might as well pay them to a manager as to a minimum wage quality person.

I used to go to B&N all the time until they turned left and started hiding conservative books. I am a big reader they lost. I went there weekly for coffee and reading with girl friends. They had to make it into a political sh$$ house like liberals always do.

I go to B&N whenever I can (the nearest one is about 75 minutes north of me and another is about 2 hours south of me) mainly to buy baseball and the occasional pro football book as well as Railfan & Railroad, Passenger Train Journal, and Trains and Railroads of the Past (TRP) magazines (I subscribe to Trains and Classic Trains mags).
