Fla. school shooting survivor David Hogg says: Speak out
CBS News ^ | February 18, 2018 | CBS News

I was in my environmental science class when the first gunshot echoed through the hallways. We never had an active shooter drill at my school, and though we did talk about what to do in this type of situation, nothing could have prepared us for this.

Politicians and, more importantly, the American public must take action if we're going to prevent the next shooting.

There's the problem right there.

Schools have fire drills regularly. They may even be required to have them by law.

And yet National Fire Protection Association records indicate there hasn't been a school fire with 15 or more fatalities since 1958. That's SIXTY YEARS ago.

If those teachers and students did not have their 2nd amendment right to self defense infringed this incident would have been nipped in the bud PDQ.

He seems like a good boy, but this shooting is eating at him.

School violence isn’t 100% preventable, but we have the capability to provide appropriate supports and interventions to students who are at risk for violence against themselves or others.

I have tried, for 3 years, to get my place of employment to implement an active shooter program. They refuse because they don’t want to scare people.

My previous job when through the building and put deadbolts on all bathroom doors and didn’t tell people why. Like we are fragile children. We all knew what it was about.

Yet, they never did implement any training.

His full-page rant says absolutely nothing. It reads like a parody of someone campaigning to be the chairman of Concerned Citizens for a New Tomorrow.

I was in my living room when the first FAKE NEWS echoed through the hallways. We never had an active FAKE NEWS drill at my school, and though we did talk about what to do in this type of situation, nothing could have prepared us for this.

Politicians and, more importantly, the American public must take action if we’re going to prevent the next FAKE NEWS broadcast.

Should those who exercise their First Amendment Rights for Hire or Compensation be Regulated and Licensed???

As a senior manager in a professional firm, I was forced to sit through operations meetings where subjects like this came up periodically. The company started taking it more seriously when there was an active threat from an ex-spouse of an employee at one of our offices.

They came up with all of these stupid protocols, but they danced around the obvious flaws in every one of the responses.

I suggested that the best solution to mitigate a disaster would be to have a select (small) number of responsible senior employees at each location who would be secretly permitted to have firearms locked in their desks while they were in the office. That wasn't too popular among the company's leadership -- especially the legal department.

We could create laws to take all of our guns away but this kid would have purchased one from a thug anyway. The problem is mental illness, not enough God, and the lack of a process to handle mentally ill kids like this.

Well if they had armed security this would NOT have happened..look at it this way..when the GOP baseball shooting happened..imagine NO security had been there, you would have had 50-60 dead GOP congressmen/women..the ONLY reason no one died is because they had armed guards..why can’t there be armed guards at the school..instead of these ridiculous fire drills(When is the last time a school had a fire?) do active shooter drills, get students prepared

Dear young Mr. Hogg: Yes, indeed, the American people must take action. To incarcerate those shown to be a threat to society, publicly execute cold-blooded killers, allow carry by teachers in school, add guards and detectors to schools, and expand mental care and psych wards in America. These things, young man, are a real solution.

The key is for armed teachers, properly trained, to shoot the bastard in the brain.

I wish to offer my condolences to all involved in the shooting in FL. That being said. I wish to submit the following....It is my opinion that the culprit here is the person who pulled the trigger, not Congress, not Trump and certainly not the gun. One can also blame the FBI. and the Broward County States Attorney who allegedly entered into an agreement with an agency to NOT arrest students for misdemeanors, opting instead for counseling and mentoring. 39 calls for service and not one Baker Act from the SO. So become pawns of CNN,MSNBC and all the other social sirens all you want. The truth is out there.

Why do we need ANY protections against this? WHY?

Because kids these days know dam well they can get away with about anything without getting a GD slap across the back of the head. Thats why.

The result is the rape, murder, drug culture we have today. No respect for ANYTHING.

As for myself, I noticed this starting around 1975. Well guess what happened around 1975? All the scum hippies had got out of college and started to indoctrinate the kids in their jobs at schools.

This is national socialism at its worst. They got the kids, and they will raise them up as they see fit. While we are working, many times with both parents working two jobs each, the scum are raising up the kids. And we are paying for the brainwashing of our own children.

This ends only one way..
