A top GOP donor in Florida is threatening to withhold contributions to candidates and political groups that do not get behind a ban on assault weapons, The New York Times reported.
In an email to half a dozen Republican leaders on Saturday, Florida-based real estate developer Al Hoffman Jr. decried the rash of mass shootings that has roiled the U.S. for years, and demanded that GOP politicians take action.
"I will not write another check unless they all support a ban on assault weapons," Hoffman wrote in the email, according to the Times. "Enough is enough!"

Al Hoffman, a top GOP donor with a history of criticizing fellow Republicans for perceived intransigence, blasted the party’s position on gun control in an interview with the Palm Beach Post on Tuesday.Well, Al, I invite you to come try and take 'em yourself.
“I believe the Republican Party faces irrelevancy if we as a party don’t gain a little rational nexus as far as gun control is concerned. I personally believe President Obama is right on the issue of gun control,” he said, clarifying that he considered himself a “conservative Republican.”
“We really ought to follow what the American public wants and there’s a clear consensus that they’re in favor of stricter gun control,” he said.
“I love Jeb. I would follow him to the end of the earth, even today.”
