Report: 52 Percent of Non-Disabled Parents on Food Stamps Do Not Work
Breitbart ^ | Feburary 15,2018 | Katherine Rodriguez

Posted on 02/15/2018 3:37:30 PM PST by Hojczyk

The report, from the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), found that 52 percent of able-bodied parents on food stamps were not working, even though they had no disabilities precluding them from seeking employment.

FGA’s report, which cited the most recent USDA data from fiscal year 2015, added that more than 12 million able-bodied parents use food stamps—nearly three times the number of people in this group who enrolled in food stamps in the year 2000.

The current federal policy states that able-bodied adults without children can only receive benefits from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—the program in charge of food stamps—for three months during a three-year period without working or participating in state-approved job training, according to the USDA’s website.

However, there are no federal policy work requirements after a certain period for those able-bodied parents receiving SNAP benefits.

After looking at how some states that implemented the work requirements noticed a drop in food stamp enrollment and an increase in employment, the authors of the FGA report came up with another proposal for lawmakers to get more people off of welfare.

They proposed that lawmakers should not only expand work requirements to able-bodied adults without children, but to able-bodied adults with children.

“The best way to free able-bodied adults from the dependency trap is to get them back to work,” said FGA’s Vice President of Research Jonathan Ingram, one of the authors of the report. “Congress should expand work requirements to parents on food stamps, moving millions from welfare to work, and helping to break the cycle of dependency.”

Ingram and the other authors of the report proposed that expanding work requirements to this group of people would save the federal government $12 billion per year and cause seven million adults to drop off of welfare assistance.

I’m all for helping anyone who needs help.
But able people should get jobs, even part time jobs...but jobs.

I would give the able welfare collectors notice (maybe give them 90 days or?) that their welfare is ending, so they can go to work like any self-respecting human being in society.

(And, the fed govt has NO business in the welfare trade. Any welfare should be state or local programs, not fed govt!)

I have noticed that at the check out, the people with the Food Stamps are the MOST obese...and go around with carts adding stuff to their baskets.

It has typically been that participation in a UI program which documents particular work search efforts qualifies. To keep that process up for all SNAP participation (say after exhaustion of benefits in a year) might be done. But this is misleading as is. Even the bible says won’t work, not can’t. We need other things to take care of can’t, such as overqualification rejections.

I wonder whether these entitled parasites understand where the money they spend comes from:

Are they stupid and don’t realize working people have to work longer and harder to support them?

Or are they evil and they know but don’t care?

Do they realize that when they game the system, others who are truly in need will receive less?

Are they aware of the crippling national debt they are adding to and passing on to our children and to their children?

How about trying to be God fearing, but in a society that has the barriers to the overqualified? Then which outsources to foreigners by the boatload.

Prospective employers will see that large gap since the last time employed and scratch them off the list assuming they do not want to work.

Also if (as an example) the state pays $10/hr for 40 hours a week ($400), people are going to prefer the welfare to lower-paying jobs or part-time jobs. Plus, many jobs have gone down to 30/hrs a week to get below ObamaScare.

Yes, you can shut off the spigot but it won’t mean they’ll find work.

Didn’t the food stamp rolls just drop by 2 million as lots of them are returning to the workforce?

Keep the economy good, and many able people will opt to work.

Food Stamp purchases should be limited to some list of ten nutritional foods: beans, milk, etc.

Ditto for free food given out in schools.

I have not taken a bona fide vacation in four years, and work at least 6 days, often 7 each week, like I'm sure many here. I am tired of hearing about people who can work and don't even look for employment.

All in a vacuum while free traitorhood continues apace?

Why not supply this kind of welfare from tariffs? That would even out the scales in a way both left and right could agree on. And without full-on socialism.

Food Stamps are sold on the black market; 50 cents on the dollar.

One of the managers at a nearby Wal Mart superstore told me 80 percent of their customers are on food stamps. Wow.

A couple of years ago the EBT (food stamp) system went down in this Wal Mart for 6 hours and the food stamp customers went berserk. They all abandoned their grocery carts in the aisles and stomped out of the store in a rage.

Bath House Barry did everything he could to kill work and job training requirements for welfare and food stamp recipients.

What a horrible POS POTUS, he did so much damage to our country.
