Food Stamp Fraud, Rare but Troubling [fraud rate = 1.3%]
New York Times ^ | December 18, 2013 | Kim Severson

Posted on 02/15/2018 1:58:32 PM PST by grundle

Officially, the amount of money lost to underground trafficking is estimated to be 1.3 percent annually. That is down from more than 4 percent in the 1990s when paper coupons had not yet been replaced by electronic benefit cards, called E.B.T.'s, in the program that is formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.

Include erroneous payments to recipients because of errors on the part of the government or outright lying on applications, and the overall loss to the food stamp program is about 4.07 percent, according to the Department of Agriculture.

Trump thinks that disabled veterans are too stupid to choose their own foods. He wants to make that choice for them, all because the food stamp program has a fraud rate of 1.3%.

Use of firearms in crimes rare but troubling.

Does that mean the Times is OK with that also?

HUH? Michelle 0bama thought everyone was too stupid to choose what their kids should eat at school.

Did Trump say that disabled veterans are too stupid to choose their own food?

Wow, facts from the New York “there is no famine in the Ukraine” Times. They’re just not credible.

I suspect the fraud rate involving food stamps is closer to 50%.

You’re actually quite gullible if you swallow that 1.3% figure.

I call B>S> on this EBT cards are sold for cash That’s how the ghetto dwellers get their liquor and lottery. This is blatantly false.

I don’t know where they come up with that number, but it’s way, way off. Figure more like 20-50% IMHO. How many people buy goods only to resell them for cash? How many people sell their card to someone else for cash?

Then if you pull in mis-use, and add in duplication in feeding children through food stamps AND at school, we are on our way to a whole sh!tload of wasted tax dollars.

I’ve worked in ghetto stores delivering for years. In these areas I’d say unauthorized use, selling merchandise and retailer fraud would approach 20%. The real crime is those who receive the credit in excess of needs would be close to 100%.

” How many people buy goods only to resell them for cash? “

Family puts one adult on food stamps and uses that to stock the ‘family store’!

So do I. It would be hard to find people on food stamps who do not in some way cheat. I know people who use other people’s EBT, and others who sell what they don’t need.
