The first reports of what would come to be known as the Mandan tribe began to trickle out from French explorers in the region of the Missouri River in present-day North and South Dakota in the early 1700s. These natives were said to have rather fair skin and to have red or blonde hair and blue or grey eyes, and indeed especially the women were purportedly so Nordic in appearance that if it were not for their clothing they were said to be nearly indistinguishable from whites.

I don't know what to make of this either. I grew up with descendants of the Mandans.

There are no full-blooded Mandans anymore, and not many with Mandan blood period.

I don't recall seeing blue eyes as a youth, but who at that age is looking for racial characteristics? We were just kids being kids.

I heard about it later when I went off to school...supposedly some at the time even proposed (foolishly) that the Mandans might be the Lost Tribe of Israel.

Hard to say about eye color. White traders may have been amongst the Mandans and others very, very early.

No matter what, Warren could have some tiny amount of Indian blood, and still have blue eyes.

The telling fact remains that she refuses to take a genetic test.

My Dad was one eighth Creek. His sister married a half Cherokee. Their kids called themselves Cherocreeks.

What if Lieawatha simply said, “Look, I gamed the affirmative action system; that was forty years ago & I was in law school, young & foolish. I’m no more an Indian than the emperor of Japan. Can we drop it now?”

Bottom line - she’s NOT an Indian/Native American. She also refuses to take a simple genetic test with Ancestry DNA, 23 and Me or any of several similar services, and have the service in question release the results to the media. SHE KNOWS THAT SHE’S A FAKE!

I tend to agree with you. One of her relatives is said to have participated in the Trail of Tears. At some point they must have felt massive guilt and changed the story for future generations.

This can be solved very quickly with a DNA test. It seems she won’t take one. That leads me to believe she has doubts about the story but is so invested in it that she can’t risk finding the truth. A person that values the truth would have jumped at taking a DNA test to find out.

Warren falsely claimed to be a Native American because her White privilege wasn’t enough to overcome her lack of talent and intellect to get the jobs she wanted. Her lie was way beyond cultural appropriation. It was theft of a position that was supposed to go to an underrepresented person of color.

With the population so mixed up anyway, there's probably a good chance that it will come back with her having at least some amount of Indian blood in her.

As far as I know, both sides of my family are without any Indian blood at all. But, since the last three generations on both sides are from Michigan, and .. from what I've heard from family gossip and read in old family journals and diaries .. were all pretty much horny little bunnies, it wouldn't surprise me at all if I had some percentage of Chippewa, Sauk, or Potawatami in the woodpile.

So my mama’s family was part Indian (Kickapoo) and part Indian (one half were Brahmin, the other half Dahlits) and my daddy’s family was part leprechaun and part Denisovan. Now there ought to be some money for me in there somewhere.
