What Did Comey Tell President Trump about the Steele Dossier?
National Review ^ | 15 Feb 2018 | Andrew C. McCarthy

The Rice email outlines Obama’s strategy to withhold key details of the Russia investigation.

snip

In the conspiracy outlined by Steele, Page was a virtual nobody. His only relevance was vis-à-vis Trump.

The investigation was about suspected Kremlin complicity with Trump; it was about the possibility that an adversary regime was in a position to blackmail the president of the United States. It was never about Carter Page.

Nevertheless, the Obama administration reckoned that if this were forthrightly explained to Trump, the investigation would be shut down. The FBI had no solid proof that Trump had actually colluded in any meaningful way with Russia. Furthermore, Trump strenuously denied doing so. Consequently, the Obama administration had to assume that, if he were fully informed, President Trump would not tolerate an investigation by his own administration expressly aimed at proving a traitorous Trump–Russia conspiracy that he denied and of which there was no evidence.

Now, you can believe that the Obama administration’s motives were political, that the Trump-Russia collusion narrative was mainly a Democratic-party concoction to rationalize Hillary Clinton’s defeat and cripple Trump’s fledgling administration. Or you can believe that Obama officials, altruistically motivated to protect national security, were convinced that Trump was in cahoots with the Kremlin, and they were desperately trying to prove it. Either way, though, the challenge for Obama’s team was to keep the investigation going even after Trump took office.

Since Trump would have the power to shut down the investigation, the trick was to avoid making him feel threatened by it. Therefore, the strategy was to withhold information that illustrated Trump’s centrality to the investigation, assure him that he was not a suspect, and gently admonish him about the need to respect law enforcement’s independence (on pain of being accused of obstruction).

Agteed. This narrative makes sense to me and not the one put forward by Imperator Rex, that Mueller is working with Trump behind the scenes. Mueller has hired an army of biased, partisan assassins for a reason

Trump’s eyes were wide open going in to that meeting. Chances are good that he recorded the meeting.

And why would it have been necessary to renew the FISA warrant? With the initial warrant, they could go back and look at everything on Page going backwards through the whole campaign - and reportedly, everything on everyone who was in contact with Page. They must have known from the information they had that there was nothing there, and no reason to renew it.

They could have traced Steele's own telephone and electronic communications to find out who his 'sources' were. They could have followed up on the electronic communications of these 'sources'.

Excellent question that no one else has asked.

Good insight from Obama/Comey/Rice perspective . . . however, we now know that Admiral Rogers informed President-elect Trump of the FISA abuse around 22 November, with Trump moving his transition team out of Trump Tower.

Admiral Rogers was in the referred to January 5 meeting. If anyone believes for one nano second that President Trump was not fully aware of the facts on January 6 is smokin some good weed!

The rest they say . . . is history. Do you really really believe in coincidences?

I am starting to believe the idea that Trump allowing Mueller "special counsel" investigation is a cover for a bigger operation. Remember . . . Mueller was interviewed supposedly for the FBI director job the day before Wray was announced.

Coincidence??? I will give you one, I will give you two coincidences . . . after that . . .

Here is a question. If it is a crime to lie to the FBI is it a crime to lie to the President?

Only if you are a “Republican.” Democrats are not bound by the law. Just ask any illegal alien.

No, and it shouldn't be a crime to lie to the FBI or any law enforcement. That's a total violation of the 5th Amendment. Indeed, it turns the 5th on its head. Other than the most basic "name, rank and serial number" kind of stuff, I would never talk to any law enforcement.

The implication, then, is that Hillary’s crew successfully (through Steele, Shearer, etc.) bamboozled Obama’s crew to implicate, discredit, investigate and undermine Trump.

When you tell the truth no one can touch you. Letting Mueller do his thing was of no issue with Trump because Trump didn’t do anything and he could withstand an assault by the left on bogus charges. Sekulow and company are very good at what they do.

Meanwhile, Sessions recusing himself happened to be a great move and made sense since it tells the left Sessions wants no part of the investigation and is in fact independent of Trump. That’s where the trickery is. Imagine if Sessions had to be part of all of this. The DoJ would shut down, which has always been the game of the rats. Shut down the DoJ when a republican is in office and politicize it when a rat is in office.

Everyone said fire Sessions. Trump didn’t. Why? Because if he did, everything going on to get this monkey off of Trump’s back wouldn’t be happening. My prediction is before the summer is out, Sessions is going to be the assassin no one saw. He is going to take down all of them.

And that is an exceedingly charitable interpretation of the facts. Remamber, this is the same Obama who okayed Fast and Furious, the same Obama who lied to the nation and the UN about the “Benghazi video,” the same Obama who has deceived us for years about his policies in the Middle East.

This is disgraceful. So, they purposely withheld this also from Flynn.

I think we need to see what was in the FISA warrant to the judge. He was probably in cahoots with this also.

I have been hearing this theory for months. Admittedly I am beginning to subscribe the proscribed theory or at least allow it is possible.

However, no matter how good one is, as long as there are sharks in the water, no one is safe.

But then . . . . I firmly believe a major war amongst our own Intelligence Community is underway. Sad to think our own operatives are being killed by each other. I believed back in 2013 the gates of hell were opened. With the election of Trump, the Archangels have been released to slay the demons.

Brennan et all, go to hell for that which you allowed to be brought upon this nation!
