Having a home blessed is a Catholic thing? News to me...and I've been a Catholic for 75 years.

More likely, she wanted the cr** out.

Standard practice for Episcopalians and Anglicans I know - the whole church is often welcome to take part.

Melania grew up Catholic and has in the last few years returned to the faith of her youth. From what I hear.

Our priest does it all the time, lots of people ask for it.

I had to sprinkle Holy Water myself because there is no traditional priest locally but I did make sure to do it.

We always have our home blessed whenever we move into a new place. Simple enough process.

Protestants have home blessings, especially if they suspect evil was in residence. It is not that unusual to have a home blessed prior to moving in to a new-to-you residence.

When my husband and I were just married (almost 30 years ago) the first thing they asked when we joined our new parish was whether we wanted out apartment blessed. We did. It seemed to be the regular expected thing.

Later, after my husband had affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church, we had the Russian priest come out and bless our present home. I wasn't one to quibble about Catholic or Orthodox. My attitude at that time would have been, "Same wholesaler, different retailer."

Good question. I once bought a abandoned Catholic Church. Part of the contract was that the church remove the blessing from the building. A priest showed on the day of closing and went through a short Latin ceremony and said it was done. I took him at his word. Turned it into a house(flipped it) where I am sure there were some sins committed.

Yes, having a house blessed is a Catholic thing. Clearly you’ve been cheated of your heritage.

I have had the local parish priest come and do a house blessing for all my houses. It is so wonderful to have your house and all its occupants blessed. Maybe it is a Filipino thing, but it is cause for celebration.

Catholics have always had their homes blessed when they move in. I remember the priest coming to our house as a child. You simply call the parish priest and he will come out, say a few prayers, and sprinkle Holy Water.

Melania is obviously Catholic.

Exorcisms in the Catholic Religion are clearly recognized. You may have never had a reason to question the spiritual world in the homes you have lived in, but the WH clearly was in need of a thorough spiritual cleansing after Mooshele, her voodoo/withcraft mother, and the vermin attracting Obozo.

Haven’t you ever heard of an exorcist? That’s a priest and his team who are trained to do just what Melania wants done!!

The local priest will come to your house and bless it on the Feast of the Epiphany. Very common.

Home blessing is big among eastern european catholics. At christmas, the priest shows up with holy water and writes a blessing above the front door in chalk, a nice ritual.

Really pretty common, and many priests will suggest you remove pagan diety nicknacks from your home, ie. Egyptian gods, Chinese Fu dogs, etc.

No I remember Catholics having the priest in to have their home blessed. The bishop if they had some push. Often a dinner was involved and a housewarming party later.

actually, it is an old Catholic custom. My German Grand mother had her house blessed after nighttime noises and doors/windows opening and shutting themself kept her awake.

And in Oklahoma, our Osage parishoners frequently asked their new homes to be blessed.
