I had a great education on Air Force military power during my home schooling even though my dad was a Marine pilot.
Much more prudent to attach smart bomb tail-controllers to those “dumb bombs” and actually hit the target we want to kill.
We found out in Vietnam that tens of thousands of tons of bombs dropped randomly at random “areas around the target” don’t do anything but waste money and shoot down our planes.
That there’s some good shootin’!
they created a lot of catfish ponds...
Goody. Some good news today.
Also helps to not have to be in Iraq at the same time.
Pity. Looks like a nice neighborhood.
I believe....
carpet bombing = war crime
We have lots of pieces and parts in our boneyard. They were chopped up under the watchful eye of Russian satellites.
Name them.
It looks like some of the (thousands of) US troops who were supporting the fight against ISIS in Iraq, are redeploying to Afghanistan, now that ISIS has been routed.
The Taliban are going to be taking more casualties in the coming fighting season (enhanced aerial bombing and ground artillery), and they lost a lot of the revenue from last season’s opium crop.
Also new this year, is the type and amount of pressure on Pakistan, who have always been key to Taliban success (and survival).
Resources are shifting toward the Taliban. Weapons Free.
Bomby McBombface?
Guess I’m just old school.
Yes, me too
My thought is that dropping lots of smart bombs specifically targeted gives lawyerly argument for innocence
The smart bombs are simmply more effective. You do - after all - have specific targets you want to kill. Missing a “tent” by 200 feet that holds the meeting you want destroyed between ISIS leaders does nothing. WWII we were happy to get 20% of the bombs within 5 miles of the target - a factory or oil refinery or train depot. Forget bridges or submarine pens or tunnels. Only the specially-trained - and very few - Tallboy bombardiers could get close to kill those targets.
Now, any pilot can get every one with 90% success the first time. Don’t have to fly subsequent missions to try and miss the same target again.
B2 bomber can drop 80 500lb GPS guided bombs in one bombing run. All independently targetted.
bang
Yeah. Like the DNC/DOJ/FBI Deep State headquarters.
Why be wasteful and endanger innocent, nearby civilians? All we have to do is strap a sensor nose and steerable tailfins onto a dumb iron bomb -- and, Voilá! instant PGM!
Editor! A B-52 flew a 96-hour mission? I thought P-3s were bad (one notes the P-8 can air-to-air refuel)...
