Baby Born at 25 Weeks, Weighing Less Than an iPad, Shows Humanity of Unborn Children

British couple Jordan Wilson and Ashley Challoner hoped to spend a relaxing week in Italy in December before going home to prepare for the birth of their first child.

But their plans were turned completely upside-down when their daughter arrived 15 weeks early while they were still on vacation.

The Daily Mail reports Matilda Challoner was born on Dec. 3 weighing 1 pound, 6 ounces, less than the weight of an iPad. Born at 25 weeks, Matilda was just one week past the legal abortion limit in England.

Earlier this week, doctors determined that Matilda was well enough to travel from Italy back to her native England. She currently is staying at the Rotherham General Hospital, and her mom and dad said they are not sure when she will be well enough to go home.

“We are over the moon. I can’t believe she is coming home [to England]. It’s all we have hoped for,” Wilson said.

The 26-year-old mother from south Yorkshire said her pregnancy was unexpected but not unwanted. When she and her fiance, Ashley Challoner, decided to take a short trip to Italy, Wilson said she had no indication that there was anything to be concerned about with her pregnancy.

The day after arriving in Italy, however, Wilson said her water broke. They rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors tried to stall labor; however, they found that Wilson had an undetected infection in her placenta, according to the report.

Matilda arrived on Dec. 3 after spending just 25 weeks in the womb. Her parents said they chose her name because it means “battler.”

During her first few weeks at the Italian hospital, Matilda lived out her name by battling through a number of health complications. According to the report, she spent several weeks on a ventilator before she could breathe on her own.

Early this week, the British parents received unexpected good news from a phone call.

“We got a call from the insurance people, who said the doctors had been in contact with them and said Matilda was well enough to fly,” Wilson said. “This was the first we knew of it. The news was amazing.”

The whole family now is back in England where Matilda will remain in the hospital until she is well enough to go home. Her parents said the ordeal has been stressful, but they also have experienced many joys. They said they already are dreaming about taking their daughter back to her birth place some day.

Recent technological advancements are helping more premature babies like Matilda survive and thrive.

A Duke University study published in 2017 reported that babies born at just 23 weeks gestation are surviving outside the womb at a greater rate than ever before. Researchers examined 4,500 babies between 2000 and 2011 and found a “small but significant drop in fatalities for babies born between 23 and 37 weeks gestation,” as well as a decrease in premature babies manifesting neurophysiological problems, the Daily Mail reported.

Late last year, the journal Pediatrics highlighted a baby girl in the United States who survived after being born 21 weeks and four days after conception. The girl, who now is 3, is believed to be the youngest premature baby to survive.

Cases like these are prompting calls to change abortion laws in the U.S. and England to reflect the new viability lines. Previously, 24 weeks generally was considered the point of viability. Abortions are illegal after 24 weeks in England and in a number of American states.

That’s not a baby . . . It’s been called an obligate parasite . . . I’ll never forget one of those pro-slaughter champions testifying to congress and using that term.

My wife was born 3 months premature. Weighed I think 2.5 pounds.

That weight has certainly changed. (Thank goodness she doesn’t belong to FR!)

Raging fangtooth feminazis call the baby a mass of cells. They deny his humanity. They deny that a new individual begins life at conception.
They try to think that an unborn baby has no rights.

All this because the legislators have bowed down to the man-hating self-loathing nihilists.

Many, many years ago, I was on Yahoo Groups...that’s how I actually found FR was from a link from one of the conservative groups following an abortion pic to here. So thank you Yahoo Groups or Clubs.

Anyway, there was a group on Yahoo called Abortion Celebration. I one time compiled a list of their disgusting comments. The “women” on there were like the whores of Dracula. Devoid of any kind of female sentiment or any higher human compassion for that matter. Only primal/animalistic mutterings celebrating their choices were tolerated. It was a real eye opener for me at the time.

Another one I always recall was Bill Maher in the early 2000s referring to babies as globs of goo.

Such lovely people on the left.

Sure hope little Matilda makes it with as few challenges as possible.

I was full-time, but my folks were told I had suffered a brain hemmorage and I may not make it 24 hours. Proved the docs very wrong.

No they done. Only human and God had other plans. Although some days I wonder why :)

I always wonder how women on the left rabidly champion “it’s not a baby, go ahead and abort” for others but not themseles.

I can’t fathom how dark their minds must be to embrace something so wicked.

Especially women. As Erma Bombeck said, having a baby is the one occasion that we get to help God with a miracle (loosely translated-it’s been years since I read it). It’s a precious and fleeting time for a woman to carry a baby, something special that belongs only to you.

How could anyone eagerly want to destroy the most vulnerable and innocent among us?

A friends granddaughter was just born at 27 weeks. Weighed 1 lb 12 oz. within two weeks she is down to only one major tube and the number of lights and the timing she has been under is decreased. Steroids for lungs but handling it well along with one transfusion. She is beautiful and a fighter. They have already increased the tiny amount of breast milk they are getting into her. She is a little miracle.

What a wonderful story...Mrs Deplorable youngest brother was born at 28 weeks. Now 17, he is a lacrosse and hockey player. Only problem is that he is small (he looks like he’s 13) and he is incontinent.

I would like to see micropreemies, once they can be, bathed or sponge bathed in vitamin and especially mineral infusions. Breast milk just doesn’t have enough to make up for the amniotic waters. So much of our nutrients do come through the skin. I wouldn’t bathe them with tap water, that is for sure.

I hypothesize you would see a stronger neurology of babies who had more mineral etc exposure throughbtheir skin.

that is AWESOME and God is great.

I think 50 years ago (gave away wife’s age) it was a lot tougher to survive as i imagine modern medicine has come a long way with the prematurely born.

I dont know. I am guessing.

I will say prayers and send them the child’s way.

I know people get mad when one praises God for good things but don’t blame him for the bad outcomes even when people pray and believe.

I think a human trying to fully understand God is a futile effort.

I’ve tested him and lost!! Big. He is there. And he is VERY forgiving.

But even when we thin he lets us down, he has his reasons.
