The last time de Blasio held the groundhog was at the Island's 2014 Groundhog Day ceremony. He dropped the animal after the handler placed the it in his arms.
The groundhog, a female stand-in named Charlotte, died several days later. But the Staten Island Zoo said it was unlikely the groundhog's death was related to being dropped.

Of course, had it been DJT that dropped the animal, headline in the NYT the next day would read “Heartless Trump Murders Groundhog—Poor to Endure Six More Weeks of Freezing Temps!”

He is obviously afraid that the ground hog will accuse him of sexual harassment.

Ground Hog Day has turned into a drink fest party. I guess that’s great for the businesses in Punxsutawney.

If DJT dropped it, the headline would be “Trump Kills Groundhog; Scientists Say Winter Will Last All Year Now”.

"...He is obviously afraid that the ground hog will accuse him of sexual harassment..." With someone like him, he has every right to be afraid of that!

I am sure the zoo’s groundhogs are relieved that the groundhog murderer will not be attending.

The ground hog didn’t die because it was dropped.
It died because DeBlasio touched it! Like NYC.

At first glance I thought it said the Mayor wasn’t going to attend the Groundhog Day ceremony because he had the mange. Could be true.
