The FBI didn't release a "public statement" at all. Every media report on this matter referred to an "FBI statement" that was not attributed to any specific person, and shows up nowhere in the FBI's resources of actual public statements.
After thinking about it and reading a lot of FR posts about it in the last couple of days, I've concluded that Andrew McCabe was the source of the "FBI statement," and he gave it to the media before he was fired -- probably last week when the Nunes memo story began getting a lot of coverage.
Wray is apparently a Prince of Opacity at the FBI to help provide continued shade to the Deep State.
Didn’t the dude already get fired? Didn’t get much worse than that unless laws were broken.
Comey should've been indicted when he admitted (BRAGGED!) about leaking to get Mueller appointed, if not years before.
