“...The DOJ should conduct a high-level investigation...”

Can the DOJ be trusted to investigate itself? Also - is the DOJ allowed to convene a grand jury for indictments? (Honest question; I am not sure how the ability to criminally charge would work).

Just some things to think about - I totally realize that the “special counsel” process has inherent flaws.

Right - “special counsel” doesn’t fix conflicts of interest in investigating itself.

If the Executive Branch (DOJ, FBI, etc) is suspected of misbehavior or crimes, it is the job of CONGRESS to investigate, since the House and the Senate have the sole power of impeachment and removal.
