LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - It’s a picture that tells a story of loneliness, hopelessness, despair. In the quiet corner of a Lexington park is the place where a homeless veteran lived and died.
A 15-year-old discovered the body of 69-year-old Dennis E. Reidy there on Tuesday.
“Lying in, basically, a type of garage storage box,” said Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

It’s sad, indeed. But somehow I get the impression that people believe a veteran, on account of his service, should be made completely immune to the vicissitudes of life and the demands of personal responsibility, or that, when he encounters any misfortune for whatever reason it is the fault of society for not having adequately compensated him for his service.
Families used to take care of Grandma and Grandpa. It was called extended family. I think we forgot that.
My prayers. He certainly deserved better.

Another way to see it is that our Elite masters use emotionalism to manipulate our opinions.
I oppose that.
From the article, it seems this guy made choices that put him in his predicament.
........well, perhaps he did not have any family but if he did they should be ashamed.

Meanwhile all over Washington DC, Progressive Democrats are flat out ignoring our heroes and doing all they can to SUPPORT ILLEGALS. Giving them freebies, while our veterans are left to die.
You don’t know that. Maybe this guy was hell to live with and his family washed their hands of him.
I remember watching The Real McCoys growing up and that’s how they did it.
Could very well be true. On the other hand, maybe he had a severe case of PTSD which was untreated by our VA, and that's what drove him out of society.

Even those veterans who make poor choices, war can mess you up pretty badly!

Excuse me, but my Son-in-Law was injected with drugs prior to being deployed to Iraq. Soldiers injected with this drug (which subsequently was withdrawn from the market by the CDC) caused Vets to commit suicide and have sudden public outbreaks of anger. Some wound up killing their families. The drug permanently altered his brain cells. He hasn't been the same person since. He's being treated for it but he'll never be the same.

..........well sir, there are a thousand “maybe’s”.........................and what you say is correct, but, if I had a 69 year old father, brother, uncle and he was living in a dump ground I would have been involved......................whether he liked it or not I might add. Indeed, mental illness “MAY” have been a factor in this case.
Yup, got a nephew is the same boat. Mental issues, ex-military (short stint-Army served in States and Germany)
I traveled 1200 miles to get him off the streets, spent thousands relocating him, gettting him set up with a job offer, clothes, housing, food.
He refused to seek counciling, ended up being arrested for public disorder, lost his job. I paid legal bills and helped him get his job back.
Two months later he starts texting me, threatening to harm my whole family if I didn’t pay him what he was owed. His dad died of Cancer two years before. He was self employed, his house was in forclosure, the bank had repoed a couple of toys he had. They had sold most everything they had of value to keep the lights on. Nephew was of the mindset we stole from his dad and it was owed to him.
I have since filed a restraining order and have washed my hands clean. There is only so much you can do to help those that refuse to help themselves. I won’t take down my family for his lost soul. He has to help himself first.
I suspect I will get a call one of these days being notified of the same kind of thing. It’s sad, but as I said there is only so much energy, time, money and emotion one can spend on someone who refuses to help themselves.
There are plenty of public services of which a person in that predicament can take advantage. For whatever reason, this individual did not choose to do so. Whether mental illness, drug or alcohol abuse or simply wanting to be “off the grid”, the cause is not society’s (read: Trump and the Republicans’) fault.
