Pennsylvania Republicans appeal to Supreme Court over gerrymandering ruling

GOP lawmakers in Pennsylvania are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to stop a state court’s decision that found Pennsylvania’s congressional map was unconstitutionally gerrymandered.

Lawyers for Republican state legislative leaders argued in a court filing Thursday that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court violated a clause that allows state legislatures to handle congressional redistricting, The Associated Press reported.

The filing asks the Supreme Court to put a hold on the lower court's ruling while it considers Republicans' argument, according to the AP.

The state court ruled earlier this week that Pennsylvania’s congressional map was gerrymandered to the point that it was unconstitutional. As a result, the state must draw a new map ahead of this year’s midterms.

Have fun if inclined

The Atlas Of Redistricting

There’s a lot of complaining about gerrymandering, but what should districts look like? We went back to the drawing board and drew a set of alternative congressional maps for the entire country. Each map has a different goal:
One is designed to encourage competitive elections, for example, and another to maximize the number of majority-minority districts. See how changes to district boundaries could radically alter the partisan and racial makeup of the U.S. House — without a single voter moving or switching parties.

Gerrymandering leads to more extreme, crazy, totally corrupt Democrats being elected, which (it could be argued) is good for our side.

Fascinating link. The current makeup of the house is, IOW, more closely aligned to the compact efficiently drawn model than almost any other.

I looked at my state, IN, and nothing changes.

the far northwest, and Indy stay Democrat, like they have always been.

And few wild cutouts, like the last time the Democrats tried to gerrymander the districts.

They wanted to use 50 miles of highway right-of-way to connect the black part of Kokomo to South Bend

Gerrymandering is okay if judges do it.

Hispanics are squeezing out blacks in places like CA and FL. Without some gerrymandering blacks won’t have any representation at all.

The state of Pennsylvania is named after whom?

Snowflake answer: uh, Vanna White? She’s old enough. Oh, I know! Sean Penn!

Another chimes in, "No, dummy, don’t you know anything? It’s named after the guy who invented the TV . . . Uh, Pen Sylvania. . . Yeah, that’s it. My gramma had one of his TVs!

The PA 7th may look like an ink blot, may stretch from the Pennsylvania Dutch Country to the NJ border, and may be entered an exited 4 or 5 times east to west, depending on route, BUT....

...it has preserved a Republican House seat from the increasingly libtard/blue citified Philly burbs.

Alright, if you know who Vanna White is you are not a millennial snowflake. And it is obvious you have no problem replying with micro aggression... or is it macro.

But, you still don’t have the right answer about who the state of Pennsylvania is named after.
