Scoop: FBI director threatened to resign amid Trump, Sessions pressure
Axios ^ | 1/22/18 | Jonathan Swan

Posted on 01/22/2018 5:52:17 PM PST by markomalley

Attorney General Jeff Sessions — at the public urging of President Donald Trump — has been pressuring FBI Director Christopher Wray to fire Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, but Wray threatened to resign if McCabe was removed, according to three sources with direct knowledge.

McGahn has been informed about these ongoing conversations, though he has not spoken with Wray about FBI personnel, according to an administration source briefed on the situation. Trump nominated Wray, previously George W. Bush's Deputy Attorney General, last June to replace James Comey as director.

Trump has also tweeted negatively about other senior FBI officials who are allies of Comey, including the former top FBI lawyer James A. Baker who was recently “reassigned” after pressure from Sessions.

White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said of Wray: “As we’ve said, the president has enormous respect for the thousands of rank and file FBI agents who make up the world’s most professional and talented law enforcement agency. He believes politically-motivated senior leaders including former Director Comey and others he empowered have tainted the agency’s reputation for unbiased pursuit of justice. The president appointed Chris Wray because he is a man of true character and integrity and the right choice to clean up the misconduct at the highest levels of the FBI and give the rank and file confidence in their leadership.”

As I reported last night, Sessions has adamantly urged Wray to make a "fresh start" with his core team.

Trump and other Republicans have been hammering McCabe — who was selected by the White House as acting director after the Comey firing — for months on Twitter.

The latest: The New York Times — and others — reported in December that McCabe "is expected to retire after he becomes eligible for his pension [in] early [2018]." But senior Justice officials are still not sure what McCabe plans to do.

The FBI declined to comment for this story. Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores also declined to comment.

This reads like a gossip magazine.

Sessions and Trump discussed a clean start for the FBI before he even took the oath of office. I believe Sessions testified in this regard.

Two Main Takeaways (if true):

1 - Current FBI Director Christopher Wray was prepared to resign before firing crooked agents like McCabe.

2 - Sessions gave in and therefore isn’t in control of the crooked FBI.

I tend to believe both.

here below is why you don't believe it. Axios (stylized as AXIOS) is an American news and information website founded in 2016 by Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei, Politico's former Chief White House correspondent Mike Allen, and former Politico Chief Revenue Officer Roy Schwartz. The site's name, based on the term Greek: ἄξιος (áxios), "worthy", officially launched in 2017. History[edit] In the summer of 2016, Axios secured $10 million in a round of financing led by Lerer Hippeau Ventures. Backers include NBC News, Emerson Collective, Greycroft Partners, and David and Katherine Bradley, owners of Atlantic Media.[2] Axios' initial launch partners are JP Morgan & Chase Co., PhRma, Boeing, BP, Bank of America, Koch Industries, S&P Global, United Health Group, Walmart, PepsiCo and Cooley LLP.[3] The NBC Universal partnership has featured Axios co-founder Mike Allen on its show "Morning Joe".[4][5]

I'll bet. But you can't stop a volcano by sitting on it. The FBI has utterly disgraced itself, in duplicitous personnel, incompetent procedure, ineffective oversight, and shameless lawlessness. Deep State has attempted to ensure that no matter who gets replaced there is an equally corrupt individual ready to step into place and conduct business as usual. That's not going to happen, and the only question now is damage control. Whoever does replace Wray is going to have to be a hatchet man par excellence and will probably end up shattering the organization as it now exists. That used to be a job the media would never allow to happen, but at this point they're as corrupt and as much a part of the problem as the crooks in high places. They and their Democrat party allies will be trying to stretch this out until November, when perhaps enough Dems will take office to make the corruption safe once again. I don't think that's going to happen. All that's at stake is the future of the entire country, and if this gets out of hand lofty media disapproval and Democrat pontificating is going to be the very least of their problems.

Just fire him already. He’s going to prison anyway. It sounds like Wray is complicit if this is true. Who knows now days.

I knew Wray was as another mistake. He got a LOT of Rat votes to confirm. Any nominee that gets more then a few Rat votes is a bad pick period. I would not be surprised if Wray threatened to walk to save that piece of shite McCabe.

“This much meddling with the FBI for this long is not normal”

The FBI is not normal and needs a nitric acid enema. By the way,who is this Wray? Was he not properly screened? Seems like he has almost become the new Comey.

That’s the continuing storyline here - are these folks leading the sting or the first targets of it? I dunno! But Trump knows all ... if Wray is another deep state stooge who thought he could get away with the “oops we lost those text messages” line ... then he’s going down too.

If this is true then Wray is a co-conspirator. Because McCabe is a dirty cop.

Wray is another of these curiosities - presumably vetted by Trump but, accompanied by McCabe, he wore a purple tie to his Congressional testimony which many inferred to be his telling the deep state that he’s on their side.
