As 'Schumer Shutdown Clock' Ticks, American Military Feels Impact Abroad
Townhall.com ^ | January 20, 2018 | Timothy Meads

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders shared a heart-wrenching tweet Saturday highlighting the sacrifices that the American military makes on a daily basis and continues to make in spite of what occurs in Washington. Elsewhere on Twitter, the Senate GOP shared a #SchumerShutdown Clock counting the hours since Democrats forced a government shutdown.

Sanders tweeted a photo showing an American Forces Network TV screen saying “Due to the government shutdown, AFN services are not available.” AFN provides television and entertainment such as professional sports, movies, music, and many more simple pleasures to American military around the world.

I received this from a young infantryman serving in Afghanistan this morning. Sad that the men and women who have sacrificed so much are deprived of even the most basic connection to home bc Democrats are playing political games. #SchumerShutdown pic.twitter.com/jcUqU2crF1— Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) January 20, 2018

That image is in stark contrast to the one preceding it. Sanders also shared a letter from Secretary of Defense James Mattis to American military, encouraging them to “hold the line” as America deals with the shutdown. Despite the federal government impasse, our nation’s heroes are still required to work and defend the freedom we all enjoy. Mattis also promised his “personal commitment that the Department's leadership will do (their) best to mitigate the impact of the disruptions and any financial burdens” to military families. He ended his note on an encouraging tone saying, “I know our Nation can count on you.”

As noted by the Stars and Stripes, the abrupt temporary cancellation of the AFN comes at a particularly bad timing, as many American soldiers were depending upon the network to watch the National Football League Championship games this weekend.

While American forces and many others wait for the Democrats to compromise to reopen the government, the Senate GOP started a #SchumerShutdown Clock to highlight the amount of time that has lapsed since 230 Democrats voted to shutdown the government.

“Don’t blame the demorats for this one.”

Why not? They forced it for the purpose of getting amnesty for border crashers.

And what is all this crap about needing 60 votes to pass a spending bill, anyway?

“There’s always cricket and the Australian Open on local channels.”

Local channels? You’ve never been sent anywhere that there weren’t “local channels?”

REMF.

Thanks Kaslin. Schumer Shutdown will eventually mean two things, the other being the end of his political career.

Cable is pretty ubiquitous. Even here. I'm a REMF, but it isn't a Sunday picnic outside the t-walls. گمشو

Youre surprised the dems acted like dems?

They’re on destroy Trump mode 24/7. That the dems were going to shutdown the government should have been be forseen.

We control all levels. I’ll say that once again...all levels and still...

They absolutely forced the issue over amnesty and DECA.

The RINOs also are trying to toss Trump under the bus for the mid terms. They would rather control party ideology than lead the country. Same reason they didn’t support Tea Party candidates in 2008 and 10 elections. They could have controlled the Senate and instead we got ACA. I despise the RINOs that pushed the shutdown as much, or more than the Democrats.

If it takes 60 votes to pass a bill, then we don’t.

Yeah, a traitor is despicable in ways that an open enemy is not.

The dems do not care about the dreamers or immigrants. They’re just fodder.

The key for them is to destroy Trump. That is their priority. That is their mission.
Without that occurring, everything else fails.

Trump already has low poll numbers. The dems figure the public will blame him.

Now that’s funny. This is nothing more than another Democrat plot to get Trump. They’re willing to sacrifice the soldiers and the country in favor of illegals. Sorry, not buying your inane comments.

Idea-Can the funds frozen for corruption be used to pay the military until regular payment procedures can continue?

Don’t blame the demorats for this one.

Yes,the several "Never Trumpers" among Senate "Republicans" share some of the blame. But without having even seen the official vote count I know that all 49 Rats voted "no".

So the *overwhelming* majority of the blame goes to the Party of Saul Alinsky,Bill Ayers,Barney Fag and Carlos Danger.

“”American Forces Network TV screen saying “Due to the government shutdown, AFN services are not available. “”

And just who is in control of this? Who ordered it shut down? No one can order it to be turned back on? Whose department/agency does it fall under? DOD? Who?

“”You’ve never been in the military, stationed on a remote assignement overseas, right?””

Apparently not or the poster didn’t even take the time to read what the issue was....How about “Walk a mile in my shoes” and then talk to me!!!

What a jerk.. If he doesn’t need his glasses, why not just stick them in his pocket? Or they could be pushed up on his head or hung around his neck -but to be worn under his nose?????? he’s just advertising how nutty he is.

Or I would really prefer them “hung” around his throat but that wouldn’t be nice, would it?

When you’re overseas in one of the many shitholes you have very few luxuries. Some good hot food and an occasional glimpse of home and sports is good.

Sad that such a simple fact as yours is lost on so many Freepers.
