For a United Kingdom theyre pretty lonely.
A minister for loneliness was appointed in Britain Wednesday to tackle Brits growing social isolation, Downing Street announced.
Both proud and humbled to be appointed #loneliness minister, Tracey Crouch tweeted.
Crouch, a 42-year-old minister for sport and civil society said she was up for the task of heading a government-wide group responsible for policies connected to loneliness, The Guardian reported.
When announcing the appointment, Prime Minister Theresa May cited research stating that 9 million people often or always feel lonely.
For far too many people. Loneliness is the sad reality of modern life, she said.
The creation of this post comes after a report by a British commission that identified loneliness as a social epidemic.
They also found that feeling alone was as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, the BBC reported.
The cross-party commission was set up in honor of Jo Cox, a Labor party politician murdered by a right-wing extremist in 2016, who had campaigned on the issue.
This is an issue that Jo cared passionately about and we will honor her memory by tackling it, helping the millions of people across the UK who suffer from loneliness, Crouch said.

That’s what this is, isn’t it?
In related news, a government study costing over $400M recently determined that 1 is the loneliest number.
Would have been a good job for Rodney Dangerfield.
Well, England, it’s now official - you have FAILED.
It was nice knowing you.
How about the ministry of having muzzies rape young British women? Seems to be something that the government is allowing, with full knowledge.
How not to be lonely when you get older.
Get married.
Have lots of children.
Be part of something bigger than yourself - like a Church.
Awesome that they appoint a loneliness minister! Heaven forbid that in their loneliness they seek out and turn to their Creator!
Unbelievable to me how far mankind will go to run from and avoid their Creator. Gee, and I thought Adam and Eve hiding in the bushes was something. Guess it was just emblematic.
Minister: “Your walk. It’s not very silly is it?”
Man: “I believe with government funding I could make it silly.”
Funding was way down in the 70s. I can’t imagine how they’re getting by these days.
Embarrassing.
What qualifies someone to be the Minister of Loneliness?
If I was nominated to that position, my first order of business would be to have “workshops” all over the country, for free, for lonely people. Each person would have to put all their “smart” devices in a box as they enter. Once everyone was assembled, I would destroy the whole box and lock everyone in a large prison cell for about 72 hours.
My work here is done. Nobody will complain about being lonely for a while.
So theyre paying some guy to be friends with everyone?
The USSR had a perfect solution to loneliness, they forced multiple people and families to share housing.
