Tell us how Flakey can be reigned in when he is a lame duck with nothing to lose? Granted, McConnell can not stand on his won but he can do absolutely noting with Flake.
As an East Coaster, I can tell you that the phrase “shithole countries” wouldn’t be something one of us would say. “Third world shithole” would be the phrase we would use. Thus, I’ve been suspect of the report since the beginning - it didn’t sound right, and it doesn’t sound like Trump.

Flake speaks boldly and without constraint bc he knows there will be no push back. All McConnell would have to do is issue a statement saying Flake is a lame duck who speaks for himself but NOT for the GOP and not only would Flake have the rug pulled out from under him, but other Trump-haters would take note.
IMO what really happened was after the meeting when everything was supposed to be off the record, there was an offhand, probably overheard private conversation. The slimeball dims couldn't resist playing the racist card.

Nope. They said that unnamed sources told them that they heard from people at the meeting what Trump said. Basically, CNN didn’t vet the story, they just ran with it. Durbin saying that Trump said it validated their phony story.
In other words, CNN created a phony story and a sitting US Senator lied as validation. CNN should have their credentials pulled.
One thing that should happen is Durbin should never again be permitted to attend a closed door meeting with the President, even if he someday became the Dems Senate Minority Leader.
Flake’s just cementing his creds for his future job as “Conservative Contributor” on CNN, MSNBC or NPR. Those sites love fake conservatives who do nothing but bash real conservatives.
That could well be his interim plan. But believe it or not, Flake has presidential aspirations. He and the other RINOs live in such an insulated cocoon, they actually believe America is beside itself for a moderate. Flake and Kasich and others think they’ll catch on like wildfire, after four years of the ‘extremist,’ Trump.

Mr. Trump already has been wearing a wire whenever speaking to journalists, and now he is on notice to treat all Democrats the same way.
The president - all prudent Republicans, actually - will never have a truly private meeting with any Democrats again. Ever.

I did not know that either, but a careful perusal of various accounts confirms that. Flake was in a meeting just after the meeting w/ Trump, and somebody (probably Durbin) who was making the "compromise" proposal told Flake this. Flake hates Trump, so he just ran with it.
I am a little surprised that there was not even a stenographer on hand - you'd think the parties involved would want a concrete record of negotiations...
That said, I CAN almost imagine Trump after the meeting calling the proposal or one of its proponents the "s" word, and then asking something to effect of why do we want more people here who are a burden to the US, and then someone who hears what they want to hear partially overhears and puts the two together.
It would be so much fun if POTUS has a recording that disproves the s_hole comment and plays it at the FNA!

When someone is trying to make a fool of themselves, get a far away as possible so you don’t get any on you.
Flake is trying to sink Trump. If McConnell weren’t a Uniparty Trump-hater he would disavow Flake. It’s hard if not impossible to go on Leftist shows and trash the POTUS if your own party is treating you like a pariah.
