The Washington Post has put one of its reporters on leave after she attended a private gathering of liberal donors and Democratic lawmakers in November, according to a Thursday CNN report.
Janell Ross, a reporter on the Post's national desk, faced scrutiny last year after it was revealed that she participated in the private meeting attended by prominent Democratic figures, including billionaire financier and political donor George Soros.
According to CNN, Ross is unlikely to return to the Post.
The event in question was held in California in November and hosted by Democracy Alliance, a progressive donor network. During that summit, Ross reportedly sat on a panel discussion about "getting the economic narrative right."
Ross's participation at the event was first reported by the conservative Washington Free Beacon, and quickly drew scrutiny among conservatives, who pointed to her attendance as a sign of liberal bias at the Post.
According to CNN, the Post said that it was unaware that Ross had participated in the gathering.
The newspaper's ethics policy instructs reporters to "avoid active involvement in any partisan causes — politics, community affairs, social action, demonstrations – that could compromise or seem to compromise our ability to report and edit fairly."
