A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging Alabama's requirement to show photo identification at the polls.
U.S. District Judge L. Scott Coogler on Wednesday ruled the provision does not violate the Voting Rights Act. Alabama in 2014 began requiring voters to show government-issued photo identification at the polls.
Greater Birmingham Ministries and the NAACP filed the lawsuit in December, challenging the law as an infringement on voting rights. The lawsuit contends Alabama politicians knew that black and Latino voters "disproportionately lack the required photo ID."
Part of Coogler's court order declared that a "person who does not have a photo ID today is not prevented from voting if he or she can easily get one, and it is so easy to get a photo ID in Alabama, no one is prevented from voting."

One step in the right direction.
It’s the law in Montana.
Anyone too stupid to get a photo ID is too stupid to vote.
Many of these black pastors and ministerial associations look remarkably similar to Judas goats.
It seems they rely on the assumption made by others that they are MLK types interested only in racial equality.
The reality is they appear to be the Southern version of Barack Obama ie ward heelers. Their Christianity and influence is often sold to the highest bidder ie the Democrats.
Well - that figures.
, ... the SPLC, as well as the rest of the LEFT is crying.
If you wander down the street and pick up aluminum cans, you can’t turn them in for cash without a photo id.
“Its the law in Montana.”.......
Also Wisconsin. You don’t get past the first door without one.
Good!
I vote absentee since we were ‘gerrymandered’ - on the map we are ‘very close’ to our voting place.
It’s on the other side of a 9,000’ mountain range and a fairly long drive...silly.
Been the law in Indiana for years.
Moved to California from a state which required photo id. When voting for the first time in my new home state, I plopped down my driver license. From the reaction of the precinct worker, you might have assumed I had flashed my privates. Her reaction was a mixture of horror, mortification and panic.
If it’s harder to get a glass of beer than to vote, your state is in for trouble.
A judge with common sense. How refreshing!
So their argument is that voting ID laws are .... racist? Good God.
Same thing happened to me in Minnesota.
Nobody has ever adequately explained to me why you can be registered to vote (even ILLEGAL ALIENS) at the California DMV, but we don’t require any California Official ID to vote in the voting booth.
Just curious is all.
Good point. The camera is there after all. Of course the argument is that poor people can’t be expected to have photo id to vote, although they need it for countless other reasons.
Well, Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million votes.
Somewhere between THAT fact and your comment explains it!
