Feinstein’s Fusion Flop

This week Sen. Dianne Feinstein released the transcript of an August 22, 2017, Senate Judiciary Committee interview with Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson. The Washington Post said the committee has been probing charges that the Trump campaign “coordinated with the Kremlin,” escalating the issue from mere “collusion.” Readers of the 312-page transcript, available here, might form their own judgments.   Simpson was not under oath but the Fusion GPS founder still brought along attorney Joshua Levy. Simpson gave the names of Fusion partners but they are blacked out. There may be others, but Simpson could not recall their names.

Why was Simpson not under oath?

That makes no sense to me.

It sounds like Simpson refused to answer most questions.

It sounds like Simpson is a sleazy liar.

Simpson said he'd plead the 5th if he was placed under oath, so the committee allowed him to give “voluntary” testimony.

It’s not a flop. She wanted everyone to be able to get their stories straight.

For future Fusion GPS interrogations, her allies needed to know what their enemies knew so they would know what to tell the truth about, what not to lie about.

this was a heads up this was future potential political damage mitigation.

She knew that if her buddies went into questioning blind, that would comport huge, huge did political dangers.

So, she is a self-proclaimed unstable, non-genius who is, like, really-really dumb.

Did Di-fi release those ‘bank’ records? I will not hold my breath on her enlightening US on who all hired out Fusion to stop Trump.

Given the number of folks who have been indicted for lying to Congress with no underlying crime committed, I think agreeing to testify under oath is extremely risky. Someone just needs to find that your statement is inconsistent with some other statement you have made and you are guilty. Sooner or later all of us contradict ourselves, because of change of context, or circumstance, or we have changed our minds in light of new information, or we just forgot, or we were not careful the first time because it wasn't important and now it is e.g.

Well you are lying. That isn't what you texted your buddy about your date.
